Tone-down hair color at a Gangnam Station hair salon: Koara Haircare

This time I had a great chance to get a tone-down color done at Koara Haircare in Gangnam, and I wanted to share how it went.

I usually go for calm colors that suit my face rather than something too bright, and this time I wanted to lower the overall tone a bit, so I looked into salons and ended up visiting this one.

Koara Haircare is located right in front of Exit 12 of Gangnam Station, so accessibility is really great.

The area around Gangnam Station always has so many appointments and so much foot traffic, so it was nice that the salon wasn't far from the station and was easy to find.

The interior was more spacious than I expected, and the overall vibe was comfortable.

When I visited, there were quite a few foreign customers there too, which surprised me. Since it's right in front of Gangnam Station, it seems like a lot of international customers come here.

How did the tone-down color consultation go?

What I worried about most this time at Koara Haircare Gangnam was how far to lower the tone. Too dark and it might look heavy and stuffy, but too subtle and it might not look much different from my original color — so I was torn.

During the consultation, the stylist first asked what look I wanted, then looked at my current hair condition and explained, step by step, which colors would suit me and what the actual result would likely look like.

Instead of just pushing a specific color, they took my concerns into account too, which put me at ease even before the service started. What I personally liked was that they only talked about the treatments I actually needed, so I could relax through the whole thing.

After the consultation, the tone-down color got underway.

While the color was processing, they gave me a snack, and this place even has a massage chair for the shampoo station — I got my hair washed with the massage chair running, which was such a fun first for me.

After the color was done, it didn't just end with a blow-dry — they finished off with a proper style. They took care with the styling to the point that I felt like I could've gone straight to an appointment right after, which made me leave in a really good mood.

I'd been worried that a tone-down color could easily come out darker than expected or make my face look dull, but since they explained so clearly during the consultation how the color would turn out, the actual result wasn't far off from what I imagined — and that was great.

Final verdict: worth it for a natural tone-down?

What stuck with me most about Koara Haircare was how comfortable the consultation process felt. I went in debating a tone-down, and since they considered both my current hair condition and the mood I wanted, it was easy to predict the result, and the actual color came out exactly the way I hoped.

It's close to Gangnam Station so accessibility is great, and the salon itself is fairly spacious, making it a solid option for anyone in Gangnam considering a color or other hair service.
