Hapjeong bossam with cabbage wraps and makgeolli: Pyeongidambaek

In short

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch is a Korean restaurant on Yangwha-ro 7-gil in Mapo, Seoul, serving bossam (boiled pork with wraps) and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) five minutes from Hapjeong Station toward Mangwon-dong. On a weekend evening the order was bossam suyuk, bone kalguksu and Bongpyeong makgeolli, with cabbage wraps added for 2,000 won alongside the seasoned radish salad and house kimchi. For anyone who refuses to choose between bossam and noodles, Pyeongidambaek is the best of both.

Why Pyeongidambaek was the pick for bossam in Hapjeong

I was craving bossam and searching for a bossam place in Mapo-gu when this Hapjeong spot, Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch, popped up on my radar~~~ so I finally went.

I'd already saved Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch on my map app since I love noodle dishes, but I had no idea they also served bossam! Since I was craving both bossam and kalguksu, I went straight there.

Bossam suyuk, radish salad, cabbage, and Bongpyeong makgeolli — this combo I ate was the perfect combo!!!

Where is Pyeongidambaek? Five minutes from Hapjeong Station, even closer to Mangwon

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch is under 5 minutes if you walk up from Hapjeong Station toward Mangwon-dong haha. According to Naver Map it's actually closer to Mangwon Station!

The neighborhood was quiet and cozy, giving off total local-favorite vibes! I walked in while it was still bright out and left when it was already dark haha, so the photos show that.

Pyeongidambaek menu: kalguksu varieties, sides and 6,000-won mulchong kalguksu

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch has quite a variety of kalguksu types and sides! There's plenty to choose for a proper meal, so it seems like a great lunch spot for office workers nearby!

And the water gun kalguksu is on a new-menu discount at ₩6,000! But since it was my first visit, I went with the bossam suyuk and the restaurant's signature bone kalguksu instead hahaha.

And I confidently ordered makgeolli too~~~ It was my first time trying Bongpyeong makgeolli, and it had a lot of fizz plus a sweet taste that was really good!! Totally my style.

The bossam at Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch was so tender, with the fat glistening all over it, and it was seriously delicious ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ It looked like it was just casually sliced, but how could it taste this good?!?! The radish salad was really good too.

Eating it with the house kimchi and cabbage was seriously so good!! Halfway through I ended up adding more cabbage! They give you about 8-10 sheets by default, and extra is ₩2,000!

What does Pyeongidambaek's bone kalguksu taste like? Two big bones and spicy garlic sauce

And then the signature dish of Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch — the bone kalguksu! The noodle soup had two big bones in it, and dipping the meat in the spicy garlic sauce on the side made it even more delicious ㅠㅠㅠ

The meat in the bone kalguksu came with plenty of flesh still attached, so dipping it into the sauce was genuinely fun. Add a cold glass of makgeolli on top and the day's fatigue just melts away. Honestly, everything here — the kimchi, the sauce, the kalguksu, the bossam — is delicious.

They also sell anchovy kalguksu, but apparently that one doesn't come with bones or the egg ribbon topping haha.

Room for solo diners and big groups at Pyeongidambaek

The Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch space is spacious, and besides us there were a lot of solo diners too! They all seemed to know this local favorite well haha.

With plenty of seats, the place could easily accommodate a group as well!! If you're looking for a bossam spot for a group near Mangwon or Hapjeong Station, I recommend Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch haha.

Is Pyeongidambaek worth a weekend dinner? Final verdict

Such a satisfying weekend evening, all wrapped up~~~ Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch in Hapjeong is truly the best choice for anyone who can't give up either bossam or kalguksu! One bite of the moist, tender bossam suyuk, followed by a sip of the deep, rich bone kalguksu broth — an absolutely perfect combo!!!
