Songpa noodle restaurant with spicy char siu ramen: Cocker Noodle Two

In short

Cocker Noodle Two is a noodle and gukbap (rice soup) restaurant on Baekjegobun-ro 44-gil in Songpa, Seoul. Two people ordered the spicy char siu ramen with thick noodles for 12,000 won, the chicken steak ramen with thin noodles for 13,000 won and fried chicken wings for 5,000 won, 30,000 won in total, and the clear broth tasted best once the dadaegi (spicy chili paste) was stirred in at the end. There is no Japanese ramen-shop atmosphere here, but the toppings and the way Cocker Noodle Two handles its meat make it a neighborhood favorite.

If you live in this neighborhood, you probably already know Cocker Noodle Two, Songpa's hidden gem — I finally went ☺️

Exterior of Cocker Noodle Two in Songpa

I went in thinking it was a ramen shop, and I was thrown off by how there wasn't a hint of Japanese vibe haha. But I ended up having a meal that satisfied me more than plenty of proper ramen places ♥️

When a meal is this good, writing the review is genuinely fun — lalala~~

What is on the menu at Cocker Noodle Two?

Cocker Noodle Two's main menu is noodles and gukbap (rice soup). If you want to eat plenty of meat, I recommend the set menu that comes with chive jjimdak (braised chicken).

Noodles and gukbap are the main menu, and if you want to eat plenty of meat, I recommend the set that comes with chive jjimdak. They give you up to half a bowl of rice for free, but leaving it unfinished costs ₩20,000!! Only add it if you're confident 😎

Two platter-sized bowls of ramen at Cocker Noodle Two

First I was shocked by the bowl size — it's basically a serving platter — and then shocked again by how generous the toppings were!!

Spicy char siu ramen topped with bean sprouts and wood ear mushrooms

The crunchy bean sprouts plus the crisp wood ear mushrooms made for great texture and fun eating. Add the fragrant bok choy on top, and the broth stays light and mildly spicy without being greasy — kind of like a clean version of jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup)? There's also meat and quail eggs for protein, so it's simple but makes for a solid, filling meal. This was actually my order, but my boyfriend said his was better so we swapped.

The clear broth suited my taste more than the spicy one. If you prefer food that's not too intense, I recommend ordering the clear broth and stirring in a little dadaegi (spicy chili paste) at the very end.

Only the meat differs between the two — the toppings are identical.

Thick noodles on the left, thin noodles on the right

Thick noodles or thin noodles: which should you pick?

At Cocker Noodle Two, you can choose the noodle thickness when ordering. Thick noodles lean soft, thin noodles lean chewy.

You choose the noodle thickness when you order — thick noodles on the left, thin on the right. Thick noodles have a soft texture, while thin noodles are closer to chewy, so just pick whichever suits your taste.

When to stir dadaegi into the clear broth

You can add dadaegi (spicy chili paste) to clear-broth dishes for free at order time. The clear broth, slow-simmered with Korean beef bones and chicken bones, has a savory flavor on its own — and stirring in a bit of dadaegi at the end adds a spicy kick that keeps it from getting monotonous.

Chicken steak meat, crisp outside and juicy inside

Meat that's crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside, holding onto all that flavor!!! Eaten with the broth, the richness of the meat blends with the stock for an even deeper flavor.

The garlic scapes and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) served as basic side dishes are a nice treat to snack on between bites.

Why the 5,000 won fried chicken wings are a must-order

A plate of Cocker Noodle Two's fried chicken wings

The owner clearly knows how to handle meat well — I've never seen fried chicken wings look this glossy before.

They're fried so juicy that the wing practically slides in your mouth and the bone slips right out.

Fried chicken wing dipped in sauce

Dip them in the sauce for double the flavor ♥️ Honestly, it feels almost too good to just be a neighborhood restaurant — Cocker Noodle Two deserves to blow up and become a proper Songridan-gil hotspot!!
