Midweek bossam for two at a Hapjeong Korean restaurant: Pyeongidambaek

In short

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch (평이담백 뼈칼국수 본점) is a bossam and pork-bone kalguksu restaurant at 84 Yanghwa-ro 7-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, midway between Hapjeong and Mangwon stations. After browsing Kyobo Bookstore in Hapjeong, the writer arrived with a friend around 6pm on a Wednesday and ordered the medium bossam (boiled pork) platter, wrapping the pork in cabbage leaves with dried radish salad and kimchi. The medium size was just right for two, making Pyeongidambaek a Hapjeong bossam spot worth remembering.

Browsing books at Kyobo Bookstore and wondering what to eat for dinner? This is the name you've probably searched at least once — Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch.

My friend and I naturally wandered over here after stopping by Kyobo Bookstore in Hapjeong.

Where is Pyeongidambaek in Hapjeong, and what are its hours?

Alongside their signature bossam, they also serve a variety of meal options like bone soup rice and bone kalguksu (noodle soup).

Pyeongidambaek Ppyeo Kalguksu Main Branch is located at 서울 마포구 양화로7길 84, Mapo, Seoul. It sits roughly midway between Hapjeong Station and Mangwon Station, so it's easily accessible from either one.

They're open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 15:00 to 17:00. Last order is at 14:30 and 21:30, so definitely check the timing before you head over. There's no dedicated parking space, so keep in mind you'll need to use a nearby public parking lot.

Wednesday at 6pm: Pyeongidambaek almost fully booked

Restaurant interior nearly full on a Wednesday evening

My friend and I visited around 6pm on a Wednesday — there was no wait, but the place was nearly full. I could immediately understand why it's word-of-mouth famous as a bossam spot in Hapjeong.

Filling up this much on a weekday evening says a lot about how many people come here. In particular, I saw a lot of office workers who'd come to unwind after work with bone kalguksu and bossam.

What we ordered: the medium bossam platter

We ordered one medium bossam (boiled pork) platter. Looking at the menu, they also had a variety of kalguksu options — bone kalguksu, spicy bone kalguksu, bibim kalguksu, and more.

This place is also famous for its kalguksu, so I'm definitely trying that on my next visit. I really love bone kalguksu, so I'm even more excited about pairing it with bossam next time, haha.

The kick: dried radish salad and kimchi with the pork

Radish kimchi and kimchi side dishes served with bossam

Among the side dishes served before the bossam arrived, the dried radish kimchi and regular kimchi stood out. They weren't too strong but had a clean flavor that went really well with the bossam. The diced radish kimchi's crunchy texture was also great!

Wrapping the bossam in cabbage leaves

A bite of bossam boiled pork wrapped in cabbage

I took a piece of the bossam boiled pork, wrapped it in cabbage, and took a bite — and this really lived up to Hapjeong bossam-restaurant reputation. Adding the dried radish kimchi into the wrap made the balance just right.

It struck me as a bossam that stayed true to the basics while being cleanly boiled. The cabbage was nice and crunchy too, really bringing out the texture! If you're just ordering bossam, the medium size seems perfect for two people.

Verdict, would I return, and tips before visiting Pyeongidambaek

This was a place I stumbled onto at the tail end of a Kyobo Bookstore outing, but it's one worth remembering as a bossam spot in Hapjeong. Next time I'm in the area, I'll come back for the same thing — bossam boiled pork.

One tip worth knowing before you visit: they're currently offering a 10% discount for firefighters, military, and police, so if that applies to you, keep it in mind.

There's no dedicated parking, so I'd recommend checking the location of a nearby public parking lot before you go.

This place can get busy even on weekday evenings, so it's better to visit with some extra time to spare.
