Croaker sashimi platter for parents at Gaklak Market: Yeongjae Susan
In short
Yeongjae Susan is a takeaway sashimi and seafood shop on the first floor of Gaklak Mall's sales building at Gaklak Market in Songpa, Seoul. The writer ordered a medium mineonggwangcham-hoe platter (croaker, flounder, and red seabream sashimi, ₩110,000) plus ₩20,000 of sea cucumber and sea squirt to bring to her parents' house, paying ₩130,000 total, and the shop threw in abalone for free. With swim bladder and skin included in the platter and a fish-head stew that stole the show, it was a solid pick for a seafood gift on the way to visit family.

On the way to my parents' house, a sashimi pickup at Gaklak Market
On the way to visit my mom and dad this weekend, I didn't want to show up empty-handed, so I stopped by Yeongjae Susan, known as one of the best sashimi shops at Gaklak Market, to pick up some sliced raw fish.

It's a 1-minute walk from the subway station, so the seafood market is right there when you go up to the first floor!!

If you feel like you're getting lost, just ask another shop and you'll find it fast, haha. Head straight toward the back and you'll spot it 🙂🙂

Mineonggwangcham-hoe medium set + sea cucumber and sea squirt, our order
My dad said he wanted croaker (min-eo), so we ordered a mixed sashimi platter of croaker, flounder, and red seabream!
- Mineonggwangcham-hoe (medium size, ₩110,000)
- Sea cucumber and sea squirt (minimum order unit was ₩20,000, so we added that much)
- They threw in abalone for free ❤️

It was also great that you can package everything from gizzard shad to king crab, lobster, sea cucumber, sea squirt, and whelk with your sashimi order all at once.

The mineonggwangcham-hoe came with swim bladder and skin included, so it was really filling, and honestly the fish-head stew (seodeori-tang) was such a standout that I'd tell anyone to make sure to grab some!!! If you love a good spicy fish broth, do not skip the seodeori-tang (highly recommend, lol).
Order by phone if you want to skip the wait
If you call ahead before picking up, you can grab your order right away, so if a 15-minute wait sounds annoying, ordering in advance might be a good idea :) I ordered on the spot, so I waited about 15 minutes, haha.

Today's total at Yeongjae Susan, one of the best sashimi shops at Gaklak Market, came to ₩130,000!!!!!

The packaging and the fish-head stew setup
Doesn't the packaging look great?? Just having neat, clean packaging like this really boosts a shop's image, haha. Since I was bringing it as a gift to my parents' house, it was perfect :)

The seodeori-tang spicy fish stew at Yeongjae Susan was the real deal! They put in two clams and really took care of every detail — bean sprouts, radish, all of it. I have to applaud that kind of attention 👏👏👏

Is the medium mineonggwangcham-hoe enough for four people?
I ordered the medium size for ₩110,000, and it was plenty for four adults to eat with leftovers!! With the sea cucumber and sea squirt added on, honestly you could probably order one size down and still have enough. Next time I'm going to try ordering one size smaller, haha.

It was my first time eating croaker — I'm more of a flounder person, so it was just so-so for me — but my dad ate the skin and swim bladder happily, so it was a dinner the whole family enjoyed together, haha.

By the time we finished the sashimi plate and the seafood, we were too full to even touch the spicy stew that day, haha. We ended up heating it up for lunch the next day :)

Vinegar sauce and ssamjang, and why I'll go back
At Yeongjae Susan, one of Gaklak Market's best sashimi shops, they gave us ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) on top of the usual vinegar-chili sauce. Honestly this was the first place I'd seen give out ssamjang, and it paired perfectly with the lettuce wraps and peppers we had at home 👍👍
There are so many sashimi shops at Gaklak Market that I always struggled to pick one, but after this pickup at Yeongjae Susan, I've definitely added it to my regular list, haha. Above all, croaker is a tricky fish to prep, but the flesh was firm and springy with zero fishy smell, totally clean, and the flounder and red seabream were both fresh too, so switching between the three was genuinely fun ❤️
The care of including the swim bladder and skin, plus the free abalone on top, made the whole thing feel like great value for the price!! And the fish-head stew wasn't even a menu item they sell separately, yet it was so good I found myself looking forward to it more than the sashimi!!! If you're looking for something good to bring on a visit to your parents' place, or a sashimi takeaway shop at Gaklak Market you can trust, I'd confidently recommend Yeongjae Susan!!!

With the free abalone on top, we ended up with a proper spread of sea cucumber, sea squirt, croaker, flounder, sea bass, and red seabream — a full mixed sashimi platter! If you're picking up sashimi at Gaklak Market for a family meal, I'd recommend this place 💛
