Unlimited eel grill in Ansan: Songnim Bok Jangeo
In short
Songnim Bok Jangeo Wolpi Branch is an unlimited freshwater eel grill restaurant in Ansan, Gyeonggi. I grilled eel and pork belly myself, using the self-service bar for side dishes; the eel was crisp outside and tender inside, though I was too full to try the side dishes.

I had unlimited freshwater eel at Songnim Bok Jangeo Wolpi Branch (송림복장어 월피점) in Wolpi-dong, Ansan. I grilled eel and pork belly myself and paired them with the various side dishes from the self-service bar.

Is there space and parking for company dinners or family gatherings?
The restaurant looked large even from outside. I liked that it has its own dedicated parking lot.

Inside, the space was roomy and comfortable. There was seating on the second floor as well as the first, and plenty of group tables, so I thought it could work for a company dinner or family gathering.

Posters on the walls explained how to grill eel and gave information about hygiene and freshness.

What side dishes are available besides eel?
The menu included eeltang (eel soup), makguksu (buckwheat noodles), yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), and spicy ramen. I ate so much eel that I was too full to order any side dishes. On a future visit, I would like to try the eel soup or makguksu as well.

How do the table setting and self-service bar work?
When I visited, bokbunja (Korean black raspberry wine) was served as a welcome drink as soon as I sat down. It was sweet and rich. The staff brought the initial side dishes, while I picked up any additional dishes myself from the self-service bar.

The self-service bar had not only side dishes, but also eel, pork belly, and duck.

I could also keep helping myself to wrap vegetables, garlic, warm soybean sprout soup, and rice at no extra charge. It was convenient to have such a variety of foods to eat with the grilled meat.

How were the eel and pork belly grilled at the table?
The freshwater eel was so large that it filled the grill.

The golden-brown grilled eel was thick, with a crisp exterior. It was tender inside, and I enjoyed it.

The pork belly I grilled alongside it was good too, but freshwater eel suited my taste better, so I mainly went back for eel later on.

Which side dishes went well with the eel?
Wrapping the eel with perilla leaves and pickled radish was refreshing. The combination with tangy white kimchi also left a clean finish.

Grilled garlic added a nutty flavor. I liked being able to eat the eel in different combinations because there were so many side dishes.
