Gangnam café for solo dessert on a roomy 2nd floor: Upper and Under

Looking for a good-vibe dessert café near Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam? Upper and Under 🩶🩶

I had another appointment near Sinnonhyeon Station today!! There was a pretty café nearby, so I stopped by alone after my schedule ended. Solo café time — always a happy time haha.

Where is Upper and Under, and what are the hours?

This is a place called "Upper and Under" near Sinnonhyeon Station. Search for Gangnam or Sinnonhyeon café and it pops up right at the top?! That's how famous it is.

1st floor or 2nd floor: where should you sit alone?

The inside of Upper and Under has this kind of feel~~ This is the 1st floor!! It's a bit noisy and bustling downstairs, so I headed up to the 2nd floor.

This is the 2nd floor. It's definitely more spacious, with more distance between tables, so it looked great for spending quiet time alone!

There's a range of seats, from quiet corner spots to bright window tables. It's roomy enough for a group of 5-6 friends too.

Drinks, bakery and dessert lineup at Upper and Under

The drink menu is so varied, right?! This place is apparently famous for its cream lattes. I kind of wanted the signature matcha cream latte or pistachio cream latte that day, but since I was here for dessert, I passed. ㅠㅡㅠ

The cakes are really varied too!! There's raspberry, lemon, Earl Grey grapefruit, and tiramisu — all with completely eye-popping visuals.

Cheesecake, canelé, tart, financier, madeleine, and so many other bakery items. What to choose!! Agonized, agonized, agonized...

And this is what I picked!! Even though I was alone, the desserts all looked so good I just grabbed everything.

What I ordered at Upper and Under

Ta-da,,, such a cute, adorable spread of drink and dessert visuals — totally treating myself solo ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ. It'd been a while since I came to a dessert café like this, and I just couldn't hold back.

Being alone really is nice — you can eat this much delicious stuff too

Raspberry cake: how does it taste?

I couldn't finish most of the desserts, so I packed them up to take home!! The raspberry cake has raspberry cream piled generously on top, with two layers of pound cake sheet underneath. There's also raspberry compote — jam-like — inside, and it was genuinely sweet and tangy.

Yellow cheese Basque cheesecake

This is the yellow cheese Basque cheesecake!! A cheesecake plus yellow cheese, of all things — the cheese flavor was so intense. A cake that maximizes that salty, savory Ppoppo-snack-cracker kind of taste. The crumble on top also gave it nice texture!!

Too much dessert for one: what I packed to go

I went overboard and ordered this much dessert ㅋㅎㅋㅋㅎㅋㅋㅎㅋㅎ and ended up packing it to share with a friend later — behind the scenes. Lately shooting these overhead flat-lay shots has become my go-to style.. (they come out cuter and fuller looking)

Upper and Under has such a great vibe and is so pretty!! If you've got plans around this area, I think everyone should check it out. haha
