Gangneung ocean-view café with corn cream shot latte: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café beside Sajeunjin Beach in Gangneung. I explored its rooftop observatory and had a corn cream shot latte, iced Americano, and condensed milk bread; the varied floors and amenities were useful, though some bakery shelves were sparse during my visit.

During my trip to Gangneung, I stopped by Baegya Coffee (백야커피) right beside Sajeunjin Beach. It was easy to walk over from the beach, and after having drinks and bread, I also looked around the rooftop observatory.

Is it close to Sajeunjin Beach and easy to park?

Baegya Coffee was a large building that stood out even from a distance. Its location near Sajeunjin Beach made it a convenient stop before or after enjoying the sea. There was also plenty of parking in front of and behind the café, which made it convenient to visit by car.

Is there a wide bakery selection?

On the first floor, I could browse the drinks menu and bakery. There were various drinks besides coffee, and the ice cream marked with stars on the menu also caught my eye. I did not try the ice cream this time.

There was a wide variety of bread, but by the time I visited, some of the popular items had sold out and the display shelves were a little bare. If you want to compare and choose among many breads, it may be better to visit a little earlier.

What is the seating like for family and friends?

Each floor had a slightly different feel. There were spaces with a warm, comfortable atmosphere as well as ones that felt calm and airy, so I could choose a seat to suit my preference. Seating ranged from tables for four to larger group tables, so it looked easy to find a spot when visiting with family or friends.

Can you charge a phone or warm up bread?

The phone-charging service was welcome while traveling. Returns had to be made on the first floor, but water, tissues, and necessary utensils were separately available on every floor.

I especially liked the microwave. I could warm up cooled bread myself and eat it warm. There was also a shelf in the elevator to set down a tray briefly, which was convenient when moving between floors with drinks and bread.

Can you see the sea from the rooftop?

There was a rooftop upstairs, along with an observatory space above it that I could climb up to. It was nice to take a short break from the indoor seating and go up to look at the sea. On a clear day, it also looked like a good place to take photos with the ocean as a backdrop.

How were the corn cream shot latte and condensed milk bread?

I ordered a corn cream shot latte, iced Americano, and condensed milk bread. The iced Americano was cool and nutty, and it went well with the sweet bread.

The corn cream shot latte, a signature menu item, had soft cream on top. The cream made an impression from the first sip, and it also had the characteristic nuttiness of corn. It seemed worth choosing if you like coffee that is both sweet and nutty.

The condensed milk bread was sweet and soft on its own, but I liked it even more after warming it slightly in the microwave. Once warm, its soft texture and the sweetness of the condensed milk came through more clearly. It also paired well with the iced Americano.
