Risan is a newly opened pork BBQ restaurant on Osongsaengmyeong 7-ro in Osong-eup, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju. It's right next to the main gate of Osong Paragon 3, so you can even walk there.

Hi everyone 🙌🏻 Now that it's getting cooler, don't you keep craving meat, haha? (Classic rule of someone who lives to eat... 🐷) Today I'm bringing you a new BBQ spot in Osong!! Spoiler: the color of the raw meat alone made me want to come back x1000😘

The weather's nice these days so I strolled over on foot, but it turned out to be quite a walk — good, I thought, that'll make the meat taste even better!

Inside Risan: a wide-open hall with open-air night seating

Risan has a spacious hall with all the windows facing outside left open, giving it an open-air dining atmosphere. The tables are spaced generously too, so I didn't worry about seating even for a group dinner.

The moment I walked in I blurted out, "whoa, it's spacious!" All the windows connecting to the outside were open, giving it that airy, open-air feel — I really loved that vibe 🫶

Perfect for a loud, fun dinner with friends, and grilling meat outdoors in the cool weather... if you know, you know 😌 The tables were spaced far enough apart that I didn't have to worry about the next table over, so I could eat comfortably. Even a big group could come without worrying about seats 👍

At Risan I ordered the two-person mixed set. Pork belly, pork neck, and a special cut all came out together, which is perfect for anyone who wants to try every kind of meat, and the portion was generous enough for two people.

The raw meat's condition alone stood out. Can you see the color? 👀 It looked fresh at a glance... already delicious just looking at it raw.

How did the pork belly, pork neck and special cut taste?

Risan's pork belly has just the right amount of fat, so it melts in your mouth but comes up savory rather than greasy. The pork neck was moist instead of dry, and the special cut had a nice chewy bite.

As my one-man grill master kept flipping expertly, I took one bite of a nicely browned pork belly slice and — what?! It was seriously insane!!!!!! Even writing this now I want more...

The pork belly has just enough fat that it melts in your mouth, but it comes up savory instead of greasy! If you like pork belly with some fat, run there right now!

And the pork neck — I thought it'd be dry, but it was surprisingly moist 😳 The special cut had a nice chewy bite too, so good! Getting to try all three cuts in one set made it even better!

Trying so many different things and enjoying every bite was such a treat~~ I think I'll order the mixed set every time from now on! The portion was bigger than it looked, so we barely finished it all 🤭

Side dishes and sauces at Risan

Risan serves a solid variety of side dishes. Just when I thought that was it, more kept coming, and the sauces were varied enough that I never got tired of them.

The sauces especially were varied, so I could dip the meat in this one and that one and enjoy it in different ways! Even the same meat never got boring when I switched sauces! 👏

Free egg custard and the service at Risan

At Risan we got a complimentary gyeranjjim (steamed egg custard). It even had sesame oil drizzled on top, so I could tell it was going to be delicious just by looking at it.

And we got a complimentary gyeranjjim! This... was so, so good 😭 Look at that visual, you can already tell from the looks alone it's going to be delicious!!!!!! Sesame oil on top of the gyeranjjim... the owner really knows what they're doing... 🥹

🙏 The owner and staff's kindness was a bonus

The owner and staff took such good care of us the whole time, which made the meal even more enjoyable. When the food is good and everyone's kind too, how can you not want to come back? 😊

Parking and reservations at Risan, beside the Osong Paragon 3 main gate

Risan sits right next to the main gate of Osong Paragon 3, and if you go through the main gate and turn right immediately, there's a parking lot. Given how bad parking usually is in Osong, not having to worry about it is a real advantage.

Turn right right after entering the main gate and there's the parking lot! Not having to worry about parking is genuinely great — everyone knows how bad the parking crunch gets in Osong.

Even coming as a group, there was enough parking and enough seating inside to visit without worry 👍 It can get busy on weekend evenings or during work-dinner season, so I'd recommend booking ahead 😉 If I hadn't reserved, I probably would have had to wait!
