Dongdaegu Station brunch café at opening time, gallery seats: Baut

This time I'm back with a Daegu edition haha. Here's my review of Baut, the brunch café I visited on a trip to the Dongdaegu Station Shinsegae Department Store. It's a huge café spanning a whopping 3 floors. It seemed to be quite a well-known spot, since there were already lots of customers right from opening time.

Baut hours, parking and how to get there

Baut is a 3-floor brunch café on Dongbu-ro 26-gil in Dong-gu, Daegu, in the Dongdaegu Station food alley. Hours are Monday, Wednesday–Friday 10:00–20:00, and Saturday–Sunday 11:00–21:00, with regular closures every Tuesday.

The blue door against the white building is quite striking. It gives the exterior a feel like you've come to visit the seaside.

Most places in the Dongdaegu Station food alley don't have parking, but Baut has its own private lot right next to the store, so it'll be really convenient for anyone driving.

Right at the entrance there's a space for brewing coffee and a space for making bakery goods, so from the moment you step in you can catch the smell of freshly brewed coffee and freshly baked bread. My mood gets better the second I walk in 🤍

First floor of Baut: counter and casual seats

The 1st floor of Baut doesn't have too many tables, so the space feels wide and relaxed. Maybe because the lines and angles are all cleanly aligned, it has a fuss-free, modern, tidy feel overall.

Second floor of Baut: table seating

The 2nd floor is mostly set up with seats for 2–4 people. The tables here are also spaced far apart, so it doesn't feel cramped and looks like a comfortable place to hang out.

Sunlight pours in through the big windows, making for a laid-back mood that's great for spending time at leisure. Maybe that's why I saw a lot of people working alone on laptops or having brunch by themselves.

There are plants placed wherever you move between floors, and they feel like little accent points for each space.

Third floor of Baut: the gallery-style seats

The 3rd floor has a vintage art-gallery vibe — personally, the space that left the strongest impression on me.

Toward the back there's also a private group space.

A table that could easily feel like a meeting room instead comes together as a more upscale dining space thanks to the added wood tones.

What's on the Baut menu

Even though the café is quite large, the prices are on the affordable side. The menu is made up of drinks, desserts, and brunch. The brunch menu comes with photos, which really helped with picking (though it also gave me decision paralysis since everything looked delicious).

Baut brunch review: what the two dishes taste like

What I ordered at Baut was two Americanos at ₩4,800 each, a focaccia sandwich at ₩12,000, and a grilled cheese toast at ₩11,500, for a total of ₩33,100.

Focaccia sandwich, ₩12,000

A focaccia sandwich where the chewy, plain-tasting focaccia meets an intense spiciness.

The sharp spiciness that comes up is softened by the thick layer of cheese, leaving a lingering savory-spicy-salty flavor in your mouth.

Arugula, with its addictive bitter fragrance, is piled in generously too. This focaccia sandwich was genuinely delicious — seeing the photo again makes me want to eat it again... I'd super, super, super recommend it as a brunch pick.

Grilled cheese toast, ₩11,500

The moment it arrives, the buttery smell hits your salivary glands — an ultimate visual.

Look at that rich melted cheese oozing between bread browned golden in butter ㅇ_ㅇ — a mouthwatering sight.

It's delicious on its own, but dipping it lightly into the sauce and peperoncino that come with it cuts the richness, so you can eat it right to the end without getting sick of it.

If you want a relaxed-atmosphere brunch near Dongdaegu Station!! Don't hesitate, go for Baut~ (ෆ˙ᵕ˙ෆ) And if you're torn on what to order for brunch, give the focaccia a try!!!
