I've lived in Paju for 8 years now. I've pretty much covered all the good spots in this neighborhood, but I only discovered this lamb skewer place recently, and now I come here whenever I'm craving skewers. What's great is that it's not just the skewers that are good — from the yuxiang eggplant to the complimentary bean sprout stir-fry, there are so many hidden gems here that it's not a one-and-done kind of place, haha. Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi is located in the Sannaemaeul food strip near Unjeong's Homeplus. It's on the 2nd floor of the World Tower 3 building!

There's a big, pretty photo of the owner plastered on the storefront. No chance of missing this place, haha. The exterior already gives off that seasoned, long-running-business vibe, and once inside, I could tell it really is a beloved Paju Unjeong spot with plenty of regulars.

How busy is Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao at 5pm on a Saturday?

Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi has quite a lot of indoor seating, but even so, it was already crowded around 5pm on this Saturday.

We visited around 5pm on Saturday, and while I was taking photos after sitting down, two more tables of guests came in one after another and the place filled up in no time. If you're visiting on a weekend evening, it might be worth going a little earlier!

This is a lamb skewer place, but the menu of dishes is just as varied as a proper Chinese restaurant! From jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) to fried rice and full dishes, there were so many options I spent a while just browsing the menu.

It'd be nice to try one of the well-composed set menus for two, but this time we just ordered two servings of lamb skewers to start, plus the yuxiang eggplant we'd been wanting to try for a while.

Once you order, the pretty owner brings out the basic side dishes. Nothing fancy at first glance, but that soy-marinated onion goes endlessly well with the lamb skewers, ugh.

You can grab extra side dishes from the self-serve bar, which made things easy.

Two servings of basic lamb skewers! I was too busy grilling them to get a proper photo the moment they arrived, but the quality here is guaranteed every single time. Made with fresh lamb, there's no gamey smell and the portions are generous.

The lamb skewer grill is exciting every time! Rolling the skewers around as they cook is always fun.

The charcoal heat is strong, so about 5 minutes was enough to cook the skewers all the way through!

Once a skewer is well cooked, dip it generously in cumin seasoning and take a bite — nothing to envy in the world at that point. The fresh lamb has plenty of juice and a chewy texture you just can't get elsewhere.

Pair that with a glass of beer and a week's worth of fatigue just melts away!

How big is the yuxiang eggplant portion at Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi & Qingdao?

The lamb skewers are always delicious, but this place has also run a Chinese restaurant for a long time, so the other dishes and full meals are top-notch too! This time we were craving yuxiang eggplant, so we ordered it.

It was my first time trying yuxiang eggplant here, and honestly the portion size is insane... The bowl was so extra-large I was genuinely shocked, haha. How do they fry the eggplant like this? Crispy and chewy on the outside, moist on the inside. The sauce is spicy-sweet and pairs perfectly, ugh. One order of yuxiang eggplant is enough to wipe out two bottles of beer.

The complimentary bean sprout stir-fry worth going back for

As you eat at Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi, the owner always brings out a bean sprout stir-fry as a complimentary dish. It looks like plain bean sprouts at first glance, but one bite changes your mind.

The bean sprouts keep their crunchy texture, and with a hint of spice, sweetness, and a whiff of smoky char, it's the kind of flavor you keep reaching for! I still haven't gotten over the shock of trying it the first time, haha.

Coming back to it after a while, it somehow tasted even better. It's even better paired with a lamb skewer or two.

The bill came to about ₩50,000 that day, and I felt like I was about to burst! There's a reason this Unjeong restaurant and bar keeps getting loved consistently. I'll keep coming back for sure~

Sannaemaeul Yang Kkochi is a well-known lamb skewer restaurant and bar in Paju Unjeong. It's the kind of place you won't regret visiting whenever you're craving cold beer with skewers grilled while rolling them around and around. It's centrally located in Unjeong New Town, so it's easy to get to, and the prices are good too, which makes it feel like great value for money.
