Paju café with a tent camping zone and choco baguette: Barirus

Just an honest review here. 😊 (partly a paid-for-myself visit)

I was looking for a big bakery café in Paju where I could relax till late, and that's how I found this Paju early-morning café, Barirus. Here's my honest review ✌🏻

Where is Barirus, and is there parking?

The big bakery café Barirus sits in Paju-eup, Paju-si — on the map, it's between Paju Station and Munsan Station. You can't walk there from either station, but there's a large dedicated parking lot right in front, so it's perfect for a coffee stop on a drive outside Seoul ❤️

The sunset media photo zone and flower tree

The first thing you see walking into Barirus is a giant sunset media photo zone 🌅 Too bad the scale doesn't quite come through in photos ㅠㅠ

Further in, there's an elaborate large flower tree photo zone too 💐, and plants scattered all around the café give the whole place a warm, atmospheric feel.

What the grass terrace and camping zone feel like

Barirus's terrace has wide lawns and a camping zone with tents. It's a big bakery café so there's plenty of room and seating inside too, but I couldn't resist that terrace view, so straight to the terrace we went hahaha

The wide lawn gives glamping/camping vibes, love it. There's even lighting installed inside, so it's probably even more atmospheric late at night or in the early morning. I heard Barirus is famous for sunsets ㅠ — watching the sunset leisurely from the camping zone sounds like pure romance 😘

How much bread does Barirus bake?

We settled into the terrace and went to pick out bread — go go!! There were seriously so many kinds of bread I nearly lost my mind 🤪 Good thing we'd already eaten, or my wallet would've been cleaned out hahaha

From sweet desserts to salty breads, the range was so wide, and everything looked so appetizing that choosing was really hard ㅠ

Dubai croissant, almond croissant, cod roe mayo salt bread, egg mayo salt bread, madeleine, choco baguette, sausage bread, cream bread, pizza bread, panini, ciabatta — all the good breads were gathered right here.

How to order at Barirus, and what it costs

At Barirus, you pick your bread and pay at the counter, ordering your drink at the same time ❤️ One thing I really liked about Barirus — since it's an early-morning café, it had brunch and full meal options too, beyond just café items: pizza, pasta, risotto, salad, soup, and several brunch sets like American, salmon, and jambon brunch. Made me want to come back next time just for a meal.

Ordered our coffee to go with the bread, all sorted.

The café is so spacious and there's so much to look at that by the time we finished exploring, here's the coffee and bread we ended up with 🥐 I was definitely full already, but the second I saw the bread, my appetite came roaring back.

Cod roe mayo salt bread, 6,000 won

I debated between this and the egg mayo salt bread, and this cod roe salt bread was my final pick. Not too salty, just the right amount of savory-salty, with plenty of cod roe packed in — the kind of taste you keep going back for bite after bite. The bread itself is delicious on its own, so it'd probably work with anything inside, which made me even more curious about the egg mayo version.

Almond croissant, 7,000 won

My beloved almond croissant 🥐 Crisp texture outside, chocolate inside — nutty and sweet, no regrets on this choice ☺️ It wasn't overly sweet either, so it paired really well with the coffee.

Valrhona choco baguette, 5,500 won

My friend and I were both so curious about this one, we picked the choco baguette. I'd always wanted to try one, and I fell instantly for Barirus's choco baguette and grabbed it right away hahaha

The dough itself has chocolate chips mixed in, plus it's topped with a generous amount of chocolate ganache and more chocolate chips — the ultimate sweetness champion 🍫 Highly recommended if you love chocolate or anything sweet.

Self-service packing station and final thoughts on Barirus

Barirus also has a self-service packing station inside so you could pack up leftover bread to take home, but we were full and still demolished all of it hahahahaha so there was nothing left to pack. Oops.

If you're looking for a café in Paju that stays open late, or a big spacious café with great atmosphere, Barirus is worth a visit at least once! The indoor space is spacious and atmospheric in its own way, and outside there's a wide terrace and tent zone so you can enjoy two completely different vibes — that's Barirus, a big Paju bakery café.
