Bongcheon Station braised pollock for two, ₩31,000: Sangdo Neulbori

In short

Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon Station Branch is a Korean restaurant serving braised pollock (kodari) and baby octopus near Exit 5 of Bongcheon Station in Gwanak, Seoul. Two of us ordered the small braised pollock with siraegi (dried radish greens) at ₩31,000 for 2 fish and cockle bibimbap at ₩11,000, and the set came with seaweed soup and steamed egg as free sides; even the small size arrived in a big bowl with plenty of siraegi. For two people, the small braised pollock plus one cockle bibimbap is the combination worth ordering at Sangdo Neulbori.

Table spread of basic side dishes at Sangdo Neulbori Bongcheon branch

After ordering the small siraegi braised pollock and the cockle bibimbap, the basic side dishes came out!!!!!!!! Every single one of them my favorite side dishes ..★

Seaweed soup is always so delicious no matter when I have it. And the steaming hot egg custard too.. ★

Bongcheon braised pollock small (2 fish) ₩31,000 served with cheongyang-chili cockle bibimbap at Sangdo Neulbori

Cockle bibimbap ₩11,000: crunchy with cheongyang chili

Cockle bibimbap ₩11,000. As soon as I saw it on the menu, being a cockle lover, I thought let's try the cockle bibimbap alongside the braised pollock, so I ordered it.

Table setting of the ₩11,000 cockle bibimbap

The rice and cockles came out separately, and the seasoned cockle mix was loaded with cheongyang chili peppers. (Spicy, with the cheongyang chili crunching between my teeth — it was genuinely so delicious, ㅠ) Mixed it all up with a generous drizzle of sesame oil~~~~

It was genuinely so good I kept exclaiming while eating. And there were so many cockles in it!!!!!!!!

Siraegi braised pollock, small (2 fish) ₩31,000: how big is the small size?

Siraegi braised pollock, 2 fish, small, ₩31,000. Just as I was finishing off the cockle bibimbap happily (? haha... I guess I ate a bit fast), the siraegi braised pollock arrived! As the signature dish of Sangdo Neulbori, the best braised pollock spot near Bongcheon Station, I had high expectations — and it exceeded them, both in taste and portion!!!!!!!!! In other reviews' photos the portion looked a bit small, but the bowl was actually huge..!!!!!!!!!!!! In photos it just gives off a smaller feeling than it really is..

Table setting of the small siraegi braised pollock, 2 fish

Even though it's the small size, the moment it arrived I thought the portion was really generous!!!!!! The sauce was pooled thin at the bottom, and best of all, there was a generous heap of siraegi on top of the pollock — I loved that. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Siraegi that doesn't run out no matter how much you eat!!!!!!!!

Generous heap of siraegi piled on top of the braised pollock

The pollock flesh was nice and thick, easy to pick apart with chopsticks, and the sweet-and-spicy sauce soaked in well — the perfect side dish for rice..!!!!!!!!!!!

Thick pollock flesh in a thin pool of sauce

Putting a piece of pollock flesh with some siraegi, dabbing a little sauce, and wrapping it in seaweed!!!!!!!!!! Absolute rice thief right there..!!!!!!!!!! (Please ignore my nails ........................ ㅠ)

I quickly took some photos in between bites, then started eating for real and finished it off super cleanly haha haha haha haha

Best combination for two at Sangdo Neulbori

For two people, I think ordering the small size of braised pollock and pairing it with one more dish works well. !!!! (Psst psst, the cockle bibimbap is a total recommendation, total recommendation, psst psst) For anyone looking for the best braised pollock restaurant near Bongcheon Station, I recommend Sangdo Neulbori's Bongcheon branch ♥♥♥♥♥
