Solo udon dinner with pork loin katsu in Gwanak, Seoul: Kosi
In short
Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch is a house-made Sanuki udon and pork loin katsu restaurant 144 meters from Exit 5 of Seoul National University Entrance Station in Gwanak, Seoul. On a chilly evening, this solo diner ordered the tori-ten udon (chicken tempura udon) for 11,000 won and added pork loin katsu, and the chicken thigh tempura alone was filling enough. Between the single-seat bar table and the group tables, Kosi is an easy choice whether you come alone or with a crowd.

I had an errand near Seoul National University Entrance Station and was looking for somewhere nearby for dinner when I spotted that 'Kosi' had been featured on the TV show Master in the House. It had suddenly gotten chilly out and I was craving warm udon, and since they make traditional Sanuki-style udon, I went in solo!
The place was so clean and, more than anything, the food was so good! The portions were huge too, so it was great value! I don't usually eat a big dinner, but it was so tasty I finished the whole bowl! I'd definitely go back! If you're looking for a good restaurant near Seoul National University Entrance Station, I recommend trying the katsu and Sanuki udon at 'Kosi' :)

Kosi is walkable from Seoul National University Entrance Station, and there's even a waiting area in front of the restaurant! The interior was so clean, which I really liked.

Since it's a certified Master in the House restaurant, I was really looking forward to it — and hearing that the udon noodles are self-made in the traditional Sanuki style made it sound even tastier!

Solo-friendly seating at Kosi
What the Kosi dining room feels like
Kosi Seoul National University Entrance Branch has a solo bar table, 4-person tables, and group tables all ready. The interior was really clean and the staff were friendly haha. It's an open kitchen too, so you could clearly see how carefully everything was kept clean :)

With a bar table perfect for solo dining, plus 4-person and group tables, it looked like a great spot whether you're eating alone or coming with others!

Since I came to eat solo, I sat at the table against the wall!
What's on the menu at Kosi
Bukkake udon seemed to be Kosi's signature dish — it looked so good that I really struggled to decide what to order! I regretted coming alone since I could only order one dish — I wished I'd come with someone to share with... sigh.
The menu was varied, with bukkake udon, tempura udon, katsudon, and gyudon (beef bowl) all on offer.

Tori-ten udon for 11,000 won with pork loin katsu added
Tori-ten udon is ₩11,000 — udon topped with fried chicken thigh tempura. Since I really wanted a warm bowl of udon, I chose the tori-ten udon! They also had a set meal that comes with katsu. Since it felt like a waste to just have udon at a katsu specialist, I added the pork loin katsu too :)

Each table came with sauces and toppings already set out! Even wet wipes were provided — so tidy!

Tori-ten udon plus katsu! I was shocked by how huge the portion was! The chicken thigh tempura alone on top of the udon looked like it could fill you up. The katsu was thick too — it felt less like an add-on and more like a full set menu!

The sauces and salad that came alongside! Wasabi and pink salt were served too, perfect to go with the katsu — the katsu sauce was really tasty too haha.

How thick is the pork loin katsu? Plus the inari sushi
Can you see how thick the pork loin katsu is! The batter was crispy and the meat was really good too haha. One piece of inari sushi (fried tofu rice) came alongside it too!

Kosi's udon noodles and portion size
And the tori-ten udon! I want to come back just for this again! The noodles were really chewy and the tempura was crispy — the two went perfectly together! I usually eat small portions, but honestly the chicken thigh tempura alone filled me up!!

Confirmed: katsu plus udon done right! Now I get why it's a certified Master in the House restaurant haha.

Is Kosi worth a return trip for dinner alone in Gwanak?
Delicious and filling, Kosi is a place I'd call an expert in Sanuki udon and pork loin katsu! Having tried it myself, it's the kind of place that makes you want to come back — clean and friendly. If you're eating solo, or just looking for a good restaurant near Seoul National University Entrance Station, I recommend Kosi :)
