I've been craving seafood like crazy lately, but my partner is a total meat person, so I never get to eat it ㅠㅠ So I went looking for a place we could both enjoy and found Sangnok Hoegwan Yeontan Gui Goseong Branch — great value and a nice atmosphere too. Here's my honest review!
Where is Sangnok Hoegwan Goseong Branch, and where can you park?
Sangnok Hoegwan Goseong Branch is near Bukguchung Station, right in the Goseong-dong restaurant alley. There's no dedicated parking lot, but you can park in the alley!
We booked a table and went early on a weekend evening. They serve everything from pork and beef to seafood 🐖🐂🐙, so it's a great spot for a group with different tastes.
What the restaurant feels like inside
The first thing I noticed walking in was how clean and pleasant it felt. It reminded me of a shellfish-grill place I went to in Yeongjongdo, Incheon — haha. Lots of tables, and the place was bigger than I expected.
Being able to enjoy meat and seafood together is already a plus, but the prices were also reasonable, which was great 👍🏻

The side dishes at Sangnok Hoegwan, and the standout mu-saengchae
This is the basic table setting at Sangnok Hoegwan Goseong Branch — they even gave us marshmallows to grill up, which we happily ate. And that mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) in the white jar — genuinely delicious. Eaten with the meat, it was insane. Hard to describe, but it wasn't like any mu-saengchae I'd had before. If you visit, you have to try it..! 😋😋 They gave us a generous amount too, and I keep thinking about the mu-saengchae we left behind, haha.
Briquette-grilled pork belly and cheese scallops
Brick-shaped pork belly next to scallops piled high with cheese — the visuals alone were insane, right? It had been so long since I had shellfish grill, I was so excited...
Getting to enjoy meat and cheese scallops together at the same time — isn't that just pure happiness haha.
Grilling over charcoal made everything taste even better, I think? The bean sprout salad and kimchi that came with it were also amazing once grilled and eaten together.
The amount of cheese was overwhelming, so you had to dig around to find the scallops buried underneath — but once you got a full bite, it was so soft and chewy, and with the savory cheese and the sweet-and-sour chili sauce mixed in, it was pure chaos in the best way.
Adding some pork belly in between bites really made it perfect.
Grilled octopus skewers: 5 pieces for 8,900 won
Partway through the meal we added an order of grilled octopus skewers — 5 skewers total for what I think was ₩8,900. Isn't that really cheap?
A seafood party after so long made me so happy... Being grilled gently over charcoal made it taste even better.
It would've been even better with a spicy sauce instead of the vinegar-chili sauce, so that was a bit of a letdown, but it was still chewy and full of smoky charcoal flavor, so I enjoyed it haha. I got my partner into grilled octopus skewers too, and they ate more than I expected, which made me proud~~ Popping a whole skewer in your mouth and chewing gives you that chewy, bouncy party in your mouth. It wasn't tough either, which was even better!
Is 10 scallops good value for grilled shellfish?
When I counted, there were 10 scallops total, though I ate most of them, haha. The scallops were genuinely huge and there was so much cheese, so the value was great! Shellfish grills are usually really expensive ㅠㅠ
The two of us cleaned our plates, and if you're looking for a good restaurant in Goseong-dong, Buk-gu, this is a real recommendation..! It's in a whole street lined with restaurants, and there were plenty of other places, but Sangnok Hoegwan was the one packed with customers. Food comes out fast and the value is insane — I recommend visiting Sangnok Hoegwan, the go-to restaurant in Goseong-dong, Buk-gu.
