I've been craving the wagyu I had in Fukuoka last year so badly that I went looking for a place that came closest to that flavor here — and when I heard there was a proper wagyu yakiniku restaurant near Soongsil University, I ran over right away! This Soongsil University spot brought back all my Fukuoka travel memories: 889 Wagyu Soongsil 🤍

Where is 889 Wagyu Soongsil, and what are the hours?

889 Wagyu Soongsil is a 1-minute walk from Exit 4 of Soongsil University Station, at 1F, 4 Sangdo-ro 61-gil, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. It's open Mon–Sat 11:00–22:00 with last order at 21:30, and closed every Sunday.

It's such a short walk from Exit 4 of Soongsil University Station that it was incredibly convenient. Seriously close enough to trip over — even I, with zero sense of direction, found it in one go 😄

Menu at 889 Wagyu Soongsil: wagyu cuts, yukhoe and lunch specials

Out front there were mouth-watering food photos along with a menu board, so it was handy to get a rough idea of the wagyu lineup and prices before going in 👀

From the signature wagyu to beef sashimi, yukhoe (beef tartare), and bibimbap, the menu was pretty substantial, and there was plenty to pick from depending on your mood — very much a Sangdo-dong spot that anyone would enjoy ✨

They also had hearty lunch specials like yukhoe bibimbap, gomtang (beef bone soup), pho, and udon, which looked great for Soongsil University students grabbing a solid meal!

There are also cozy 4-person tables, so it's great for a relaxed visit with family or a meal out with friends — a Soongsil wagyu spot I'd 100% come back to again and again 👍🏻

They set us up generously with salt, wasabi, and whole-grain mustard — perfect for dipping the meat — plus soy sauce and myeongi namul (wild garlic leaf pickle). All solid side dishes that really elevated the flavor of the meat, so I was more than satisfied ✨

The 400g wagyu set for two: snowflake, autumn leaf, intercostal short rib, skirt steak

What we ordered that day was the wagyu set for two, along with Hanwoo perilla oil yukhoe bibimbap and beef scallion ramyeon.

  • Set for two: 400g wagyu (snowflake, autumn leaf, short rib finger meat, skirt steak — 100g each) with side vegetables, pineapple and sausage
  • Hanwoo perilla oil yukhoe bibimbap
  • Beef scallion ramyeon

📍Wagyu set for two — a generous serving of quality wagyu, 400g in total with snowflake, autumn leaf, short rib finger meat, and skirt steak all at 100g each 🤤 It came with a hearty spread of side vegetables good for grilling alongside the meat, plus pineapple and sausage! With sides beyond just the wagyu itself, it was a great mix to enjoy on the grill in different ways.

Wow, isn't the wagyu quality just insane? That fresh, red marbling was out of this world!! It grabbed my attention visually before it even hit the grill, and I was already drooling.

Wagyu yakiniku grilled by my husband, master of the craft! I totally got why everyone raves about this being a Soongsil favorite. I felt so proud to have found a proper yakiniku restaurant! If you're looking for beef that melts in your mouth, you have to go here 👍🏻

There were plenty of sauce options to pair with the wagyu, so everyone could enjoy it to their own taste. Dipping into different sauces in turn let us experience a whole range of flavors — very satisfying!

Wagyu yakiniku really is best eaten right when it's turned a slight golden brown. Grilled without burning, one bite let me really feel the true charm of a proper yakiniku restaurant 🥩

A piece of wagyu eaten with side dishes

There's no avoiding a bit of richness setting in halfway through eating wagyu, but pairing it with the side dishes cut right through it 🤍 With hearty sides to keep things from getting cloying, I could enjoy every single last piece to the end.

How was the Hanwoo perilla oil yukhoe bibimbap?

📍Hanwoo perilla oil yukhoe bibimbap — if the wagyu was this good, the yukhoe (beef tartare) had to be great too, I figured, so partway through the wagyu I quickly ordered the Hanwoo perilla oil yukhoe bibimbap. Sure enough, it arrived looking just as good as expected. Thick-cut yukhoe with that nutty perilla oil aroma on top — truly no regrets on this order ✨

After mixing it all together nicely, taking a big bite of yukhoe and rice let the perilla oil aroma spread gently through my mouth, while the yukhoe's springy texture came through too — loved it! Yukhoe bibimbap is usually pretty punchy in flavor, but at 889 Wagyu Soongsil, this wagyu restaurant, the natural flavor of the ingredients really shone through, making it a great main dish.

Finishing with the beef scallion ramyeon

📍Beef scallion ramyeon — this one you just have to order, no exceptions!!! plz,,,👏🏻 The spicy, refreshing broth cut right through the richness of the wagyu, and I kept reaching for my spoon without even realizing it (you know how it is with those addictive snacks, can't stop your hand,,,)

A piece of wagyu placed on top of the beef scallion ramyeon

Putting a leftover piece of wagyu on top of the beef scallion ramyeon made for a uniquely delicious bite 🤤 The broth has this magnetic pull that kept my spoon coming back — the perfect way to wrap up the meal cleanly!

If you're after a yakiniku restaurant where you can properly enjoy quality wagyu, or looking for a great-vibe Soongsil University spot or Sangdo-dong restaurant, I recommend 889 Wagyu Soongsil 👍🏻
