Bucheon Korean restaurant for a borigulbi set meal: Gim Myeongju

In short

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a Korean restaurant in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, near Kkachiwool Station. I ordered the 31,000 won borigulbi set meal for lunch, with green-tea rice, cheonggukjang, and unlimited self-serve side dishes. Verdict: a generous, tidy Korean meal that suits a family meal or formal gathering.

Side dishes for sale by the entrance and the self-serve corner

Near the entrance, there were old-fashioned snacks like tofu crackers, and side dishes were also sold for ₩5,000 a pack!! There were cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), perilla-leaf side dishes, dried radish greens, and more. For the cheonggukjang, they told me it came with only seasoned beans, so I should chop up kimchi and radish to add in.

Side-dish sales corner at the entrance

There was a self-serve corner where you could bring back unlimited amounts of every side dish. I liked it even more because it said the side dishes are made and used up on the same day.

Radish kimchi, scallions, seasoned radish, seasoned perilla leaves, fresh kimchi, fried eggplant, seasoned potatoes, and so on!!! You can also get unlimited rice, so if you visit when you are hungry, you will really be able to eat your fill~~

One-serving borigulbi set meal spread

I ordered the ₩31,000 borigulbi set meal!!! Even when you order just one serving, they thoughtfully bring out all these many side dishes. Every side dish was seasoned just right and went wonderfully with rice~~

I filmed the side dishes in a video.

Borigulbi set meal with side dishes

I decided to order it because it said the Yeonggwang gulbi was salted with sun-dried salt and steamed with turmeric with great care. Plus, it was a menu item featured on TV, so my choice was immediate...!

First of all, I loved that the gulbi was so big.. hahaha It was nice to have gulbi again after such a long time, too. I also liked that it did not have any fishy taste!

Large borigulbi

Borigulbi with green-tea rice

You know how to eat borigulbi by soaking rice in bubbly green tea and placing the fish on top, right?!?! It is well known that they are eaten together because the green tea cuts through the oil from the borigulbi.

The water for the stone-pot rice comes separately. But perhaps because the stone pot was so hot, it immediately bubbled away, which was so fascinating!! I visited on a weekday afternoon, and there were really a lot of older diners. I can see why. It is a wonderful Korean restaurant.

Especially delicious side dishes and cheonggukjang

My favorite side dish was the seasoned perilla leaves. I usually think perilla leaves are tough, but perhaps because they were seasoned and prepared so well, they were incredibly tender and nicely salty. Eating them with the green-tea rice, the rice just went down so easily. It felt like a delicious side dish carefully made by a grandmother who is an amazing cook herself! !??!?

Above all, I was surprised that the cheonggukjang was very nutty, slightly spicy, and had such a refreshing broth. Even I, someone who does not usually enjoy cheonggukjang, could eat this one deliciously. The moment I tasted it, I had to acknowledge this as a great Korean restaurant..

Nutty and lightly spicy cheonggukjang

Soaking the rice in green tea made it feel a little cleaner and pleasantly bitter. It was actually even more delicious.. And the fried eggplant was tasty even once it had cooled. Even cold, the outside was crispy, the inside moist, and the seasoning had that wonderful sweet-and-salty balance.

The japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) was so chewy that I wanted to bring back more, but I was too full to eat it...!! sob sob I really need to come here when I am starving and enjoy as much as I can...!!! The side dishes are clean and so neatly prepared.

Chewy japchae side dish

Eating borigulbi felt nutritious, and I was happy because it had been a while since I had enjoyed such a delicious Korean set meal!

Rice soaked and eaten like nurungji

At the end, I soaked the rice and ate it almost like nurungji (scorched rice), and it felt so refreshing...! A filling meal with delicious, wholesome side dishes!!!!
