Sookdae date-night Korean BBQ with odol samgyeopsal: Muttuk Sookdae

In short

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Cheongpa-ro near Sookdae Station in Yongsan, Seoul, where staff grill the meat from start to finish. On a date-night stop before Samgakji, the writer ordered three servings of odol samgyeopsal (crispy-cartilage pork belly) with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), kimchi-mari guksu (chilled kimchi noodles) and rice, and Muttuk also offers free corkage and a self-serve side dish bar. A solid pick for couples who want to talk and eat without watching the grill.

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch, the grilled-for-you BBQ spot near Sookdae. Today I'm bringing you my review of Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch, where my boyfriend and I stopped to fill up before heading to Samgakji for our date!

Where to park at Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch: Cheongpa-dong Cheongsa public lot

There's no parking at the restaurant itself, so we parked at the Cheongpa-dong Cheongsa public parking lot right next door — since it's right there, it wasn't inconvenient at all! If you're heading this way, keep it in mind 🚗

A Korean BBQ spot where the staff grill everything for you

The moment we walked in, I noticed Muttuk is a BBQ restaurant where the staff actually grill the meat for you. I understood why there were so many reviews praising the service — they were so attentive, watching the meat's condition while grilling, that all we had to do was sit and eat. Seriously, so grateful ㅠㅠ

Sauces and side dishes at Muttuk Sookdae

What's great about Muttuk for someone with a simple palate like me is that there are so many sauces to dip into! Salt, wasabi, squid jeotgal (fermented squid), ssamjang — all so good ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

The side dishes looked so generous the moment they arrived that I could tell right away this place was legit. Each one tasted like it was made with real care!

There happened to be a review event going on too — they said they'd give chadolbagi ramyeon (beef brisket ramyeon) to those who left a review, so if you're planning to write one, grab that too. They also had instructions on how to eat the meat for the best flavor, and following them really did make it taste even better! I loved that thoughtful little detail.

What we ordered, and how free corkage works

We ordered three servings of odol samgyeopsal along with doenjang jjigae, kimchi-mari noodles, and rice — went all out! The best part was that corkage is completely free!! If you like drinking, I highly recommend bringing your own bottle to take advantage of the free corkage. We're definitely bringing something next time.

Self-serve bar

Also, the self-serve bar was well stocked, so we could comfortably grab whatever side dishes we needed without feeling awkward about asking.

Odol samgyeopsal: thick cuts and smoky char

Finally, the odol samgyeopsal arrived!! Just looking at it, the thickness had us so excited, and since the staff grilled it from start to finish, we didn't lift a finger and just enjoyed it. The pork belly had that perfect smoky char and was bursting with juice — my chopsticks kept going back for more!!

It's been a while since I've seen pork belly this thick,,, pure protein~~!

Seriously the most delicious-looking visual ㅠㅠ

Doenjang jjigae and kimchi-mari guksu to finish

The doenjang jjigae that came with it was really good too — a comforting, homemade-style flavor, so between bites of meat I kept wanting to go back for another spoonful.

Wrapping the well-grilled pork belly with minari sauce and ssamjang was pure healing!! Isn't this visual just amazing,, 🤍

The kimchi-mari noodles were sweet and tangy, refreshing and delicious — perfect for when you don't have much of an appetite.

Why Muttuk Sookdae works for a date near Sookdae Station

At most BBQ places, you end up subtly watching the staff, feeling awkward about asking for more side dishes, and constantly worrying about the meat burning. Muttuk had none of that stress. Since the staff kept checking on the meat, we could just relax, talk, have a drink, and enjoy our time — that was the best part.

Full table spread of meat and side dishes

The portions were also so generous for the price that my boyfriend and I ended up completely full! Plenty of food and great flavor — I get why this place has a reputation as a must-visit spot near Sookdae Station.

Mouthwash, hair ties and toothpicks at the counter

Even the little touches at the counter — mouthwash, hair ties, toothpicks — showed how thoughtful Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is 🤍 We got to fill up before heading over to Samgakji, and it was such a satisfying stop. I can confidently recommend it to anyone near Sookdae Station looking for great BBQ or a solid date spot 🤍 I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm headed to Samgakji!
