Weekend lunch group BBQ near Sookdae: Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch

In short

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is a Korean pork BBQ restaurant on the main road about 10 minutes on foot from Exit 10 of Sookmyung Women's University Station in Yongsan, Seoul. Visiting right at the weekend opening time of 12pm, we tried the 600g Hanwoo pork mixed set and the signature 500g matcha ribs, both grilled tableside by staff, and the restaurant is corkage-free so you can bring your own wine or whiskey. For a wedding-invitation gathering or a company dinner near Sookdae or Namyeong-dong, Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is a convenient pick.

Today I'm writing about a Sookdae-area BBQ spot I visited — "Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch" — about a 10-minute walk from Exit 10 of Sookdae Station. It sits right on the main road so it's easy to find, and the big, eye-catching "Muttuk" sign made it easy to spot even on my first visit.

Finding Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch

We visited right at the weekend opening time of 12pm, and even though it had just opened, quite a lot of people were already seated — which gave me confidence right at the entrance that this was a real neighborhood favorite.

A banner out front lets you check the menu and prices, which seemed handy for anyone stopping by without a reservation.

Walking inside, there were several square 4-person tables and round tables arranged throughout. The interior was much bigger and cleaner than it looked from outside, so even a larger group could eat comfortably without feeling cramped.

By the way, Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch is currently running a Naver receipt review event. If you write a review, they'll give you a spicy chadol (beef brisket) ramyeon as a free service — definitely worth joining if you visit.

Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch menu and what we ordered

Menu page listing individual dishes

Looking over the menu, there are signature pork and beef mixed sets, along with individual dishes. What especially caught my eye was Muttuk's one-of-a-kind signature dish, the "matcha ribs." To experience the restaurant's flagship offerings, we ordered the 600g Hanwoo pork mixed set and the 500g matcha ribs. Given the quality of the Hanwoo pork and the location right in the middle of Seoul, the prices felt quite reasonable, so we ordered without hesitation.

Corkage-free — bring your own wine

The drinks menu also had a solid wine lineup beyond the usual soju and beer, and the wine prices were reasonable too. Since it's a corkage-free restaurant, being able to comfortably bring your own wine or whiskey beyond what's on the menu felt like a huge perk for anyone who enjoys a drink.

The first thing served was the Hanwoo pork mixed set — a hearty combination of pork neck, pork belly, and skirt meat, along with a special doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). What I really liked was that once the meat arrived, staff carefully grilled it themselves, adjusting the heat for each cut. Plenty of pricier places these days don't even bother grilling for you, so having it grilled for us made the meal a lot more relaxing.

Thick pork neck grilled to a golden brown

The thickly sliced pork neck in particular had juices bursting through with every bite and a wonderfully soft texture. The skirt meat kept us coming back for more too, thanks to its signature chewy texture and clean, mild flavor.

What does the signature 500g matcha ribs taste like?

Next up was the matcha ribs, a signature dish you can only find at Muttuk. The thick cut of rib meat came coated in a bright green matcha sauce — an unusual, unfamiliar look at first — but the real surprise happened once it hit the grill.

As the meat cooked, the green matcha color surprisingly faded, turning into the familiar golden-brown color of seasoned galbi (short ribs). Taking a bite of the nicely browned ribs, the classic sweet-and-savory seasoned galbi flavor hit first, followed by a subtle, fragrant matcha note lingering at the end — familiar yet distinctly different.

Good for company dinners and wedding-invitation gatherings?

Between the trustworthy quality of the Hanwoo pork and the staff grilling everything for us so we could focus on the conversation the whole time, this felt like the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. If you're near Sookdae or Namyeong-dong looking for a wedding-invitation gathering spot, a company dinner venue, or a great-value corkage-free BBQ restaurant, I strongly recommend visiting Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch. Bon Appetit! 🍻
