Gwangmyeong Korean restaurant for fire-grilled pork: Maehwa Gondeurebap
In short
Maehwa Gondeurebap is a Korean restaurant in Bamil Village, Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi, with family dining space and a large parking lot. I had the spicy pork set for two for ₩35,000 with gondre rice, vegetable side dishes, cheonggukjang, and smoky fire-grilled pork. Verdict: Ask for less spice for a satisfying family meal.

When I’m looking for somewhere to eat in Gwangmyeong, I often check out Bamil Village. There are lots of good restaurants gathered here, with spacious dining rooms and parking that make them great for family meals. Since even mountaineers come here, I guess there are bound to be plenty of good places to eat! This time, I visited Maehwa Gondeurebap Gwangmyeong Bamil Village Branch (매화곤드레밥 광명밤일마을점), a Korean restaurant in Gwangmyeong with wholesome, filling side dishes and menu options parents would enjoy, while still being easy to visit with children. The spicy stir-fried pork had a real fire-grilled flavor, and it went so well with the assorted vegetable side dishes, gondre rice, and cheonggukjang. Here’s my honest review of Maehwa Gondeurebap.

Basic Information and What We Ordered
There is a dedicated parking lot for around 50 cars, so you can visit comfortably without worrying about parking.

I was deciding what to have with the gondre rice, and since I was craving something spicy that day, I chose the spicy pork. The green onion bulgogi looked delicious too, and looking around at other tables, I noticed many people ordering the braised pollock as an à la carte dish.

Restaurant Atmosphere
Outside the Restaurant

Maehwa Gondeurebap sits in the highest, quietest part of Bamil Village. There is not only a restaurant but also a café inside, which looked great because you can have coffee or another drink for dessert after your meal without going anywhere else.

There is a short walking path beside the restaurant, along with a nicely arranged area to sit and rest. Maybe because the weather has been pleasantly cool lately, quite a few families were sitting at the outdoor tables and chairs, chatting warmly together.
Inside the Restaurant

The restaurant is spacious and geared toward family meals, with baby chairs available too. Since the main dishes are not soup-based, there are hardly any dishes that come bubbling away or extremely hot, so it seems like an easy Gwangmyeong restaurant to visit with children.
Spicy Stir-Fried Pork and the Side Dishes

A variety of basic side dishes comes out, including anchovies, water parsley, bean sprouts, kimchi, seasoned bellflower root, roasted seaweed, and salad.

I usually love gondre rice and vegetable side dishes, but making all of them myself is such a hassle. It is wonderful when eating out lets you enjoy lots of healthy foods so conveniently.

There was a reason the staff member asked, “Would you like us to make it less spicy?” when we ordered the main side dish, stir-fried pork. Along with its fire-grilled flavor, it was spicy enough to make your mouth tingle 😇 If you are visiting with children or do not handle spicy food well, I definitely!! recommend ordering it less spicy.
How I Enjoyed the Gondre Rice

There is so much gondre in it that you cannot even see the rice. As I stirred it around, a nutty aroma and the scent of gondre spread out.

After portioning out the pot rice, I poured in hot water to make sungnyung (scorched-rice tea).

The soy sauce seasoning served alongside it is delicious. Its fragrant, nutty flavor just bursts out. I quickly mixed it into the gondre rice and took a bite, and it was so good that I was genuinely surprised.

You can enjoy the gondre rice in lots of ways: mixed with the tangy, nutty cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), or alongside soybean paste soup.

Healthy gondre rice with spicy, fire-grilled pork makes for a truly delicious bite.
I had a full spicy stir-fried pork meal at Maehwa Gondeurebap, a Bamil Village Korean restaurant. Enjoying the spicy pork alongside the fragrant gondre rice and assorted side dishes made for a delicious, filling meal that felt wholesome too. Beyond the pork, the beef bulgogi and webfoot octopus sound tempting, so if I have a meal with my parents to plan, I think this would be a lovely place to return and treat them to a healthy meal.
