I had dinner at Menya Seoul on the 7th floor of Yongsan I'Park Mall. I'd stopped by the mall and headed up to the 7th floor restaurant area for dinner.

It's directly connected to Yongsan Station, so it's a convenient spot for a meal before or after shopping or a movie. I love ramen anyway, and the menu with dongpo pork instead of regular chashu caught my eye, so I went in.

Luckily there was no wait on the weekday evening I visited, so I got a seat right away. Besides the restaurant's own seating, there are shared food hall tables nearby too, which made it seem like a good spot for a quick dinner at Yongsan I'Park Mall.

For anyone near Yongsan Station looking for a hearty, distinctive bowl of ramen, here's an honest review of this Yongsan ramen restaurant.

The restaurant's own seating was neatly kept, and thanks to the mall setting, there's also a shared table area to use, offering everything from solo seats to group tables. I ordered the dongpo pork chashu ramen double set and the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen double set. You can order à la carte, but ordering a set gets you a side and a drink, and the double gives you more dongpo pork — if you love meat, that's probably the better fit.

What is the difference between a set and a double set?

Ordering the double means double the dongpo pork, so you get to eat a lot of it. If you're a meat lover, I'd recommend the double!

Dongpo pork chashu ramen: how the broth tastes

This Yongsan I'Park Mall favorite is relatively quick from order to serving, which made it good for a meal before or after shopping or a movie. Both the dongpo pork chashu ramen and the spicy version came out without a long wait.

Big chunks of dongpo pork, a soft-boiled egg, and noodles were all generously piled in the bowl, looking hearty from the moment it arrived.

First I tried Menya Seoul's basic menu, the dongpo pork chashu ramen. Taking the first sip of broth, it was less greasy than I expected, with a rich, savory umami flavor.

The dongpo pork was piled generously, but the broth wasn't too heavy, so it was easy to keep spooning up. The noodles kept a chewy bite without going soft, and they held the broth well so the noodles and soup didn't feel separate. If you're looking for a rich-broth ramen at Yongsan I'Park Mall, this is a safe, satisfying choice.

How thick is the dongpo pork chashu, and how does it eat?

What I was most looking forward to was the big chunk of dongpo pork chashu piled on top of the ramen. Unlike typical thin chashu, it had real thickness, and picked up with chopsticks, it fell apart gently along its grain — a sign it was cooked just right.

The lean meat was moist and the fatty part was tender, blending naturally in the mouth. The slightly sweet, salty seasoning soaked into the meat nicely too — good on its own, and even better paired with the noodles and rich ramen broth.

How spicy is the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen?

Second, I tried the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen. Like the basic version, it came with big chunks of dongpo pork generously piled on, and the chewy noodles were well coated in the spicy broth — it looked delicious.

The soft-boiled egg on top also had a moist yolk that wasn't overcooked. Eaten on its own it was soft and savory, and mixed in with the spicy broth every so often, it gently softened the heat — a nice pairing.

A spoonful of the sharp, spicy ramen broth

For me personally, the spicy dongpo pork chashu ramen was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. It wasn't aggressively hot, more of a sharp, clean spiciness, so even I, who can't handle spicy food well, could eat it without much trouble.

In particular, the spicy broth cut through the richness of the dongpo pork at times, making it feel a bit cleaner than the basic ramen. If you like a rich broth with some heat, the spicy option is worth choosing when you're having ramen at Yongsan I'Park Mall.

Set sides: crispy karaage and crispy gyoza

The crispy karaage lived up to its name — crispy batter outside, moist chicken inside — making it a nice bite between spoonfuls of ramen. Dipped in the sweet sauce that came with it, it paired well with the salty ramen too.

The crispy gyoza had a thinner, crispier-fried wrapper than typical pan-fried dumplings. They were good on their own, but I found them even better dipped lightly into the rich ramen broth.

With karaage and gyoza alongside the ramen, the portion felt quite substantial, and sipping cold Zero Coke in between made for a good palate cleanser. If you want to eat ramen and sides generously at Yongsan I'Park Mall, ordering a set is a good idea.

Is Menya Seoul Yongsan I'Park Mall worth it? Final verdict

Having tried it myself, Menya Seoul Yongsan I'Park Mall Branch offered something different with its thick, tender dongpo pork instead of regular chashu. You can choose between the basic and spicy ramen depending on your taste, and ordering a set lets you eat generously with sides included.

If you're looking for a good ramen restaurant near Yongsan I'Park Mall before or after shopping or a movie, this place is worth a stop.
