Spicy tonkotsu ramen level 2 in Itaewon, Seoul: Okagura Ramen

In short

Okagura Ramen is a Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen restaurant tucked in an alley between Itaewon and Noksapyeong stations in Yongsan, Seoul. The writer added chashu to both the classic tonkotsu ramen and the umakara tonkotsu level 2, finding the level 2 pleasantly spicy and hangover-curing while the base tonkotsu had deep, savory richness. With aprons, hair ties, and oolong tea offered at the table, it worked well for both solo dining and a Yongsan date.

Inside, there's a bar counter for comfortable solo dining plus table seating for groups. It's easy to come here alone, but it's also great for a group of about 4 or a cozy couple's date in Yongsan!

What moved me even before the food arrived was the thoughtfulness everywhere — they set out both warm oolong tea and cold water so you can choose your preference, and each table had disposable aprons and hair ties neatly placed up front.

Tonkotsu ramen and umakara tonkotsu level 2, with extra chashu

We ordered the tonkotsu ramen and the umakara tonkotsu (level 2), adding chashu to each!

🍜 Tonkotsu ramen (with extra chashu)

With the classic tonkotsu ramen, the moment the broth hit my mouth it burst with savory, umami richness! The broth was thick and deep, so I kept going back for more. The thin noodles, cooked to the standard firmness, held the broth beautifully. The added chashu had a hint of char and melted softly in the mouth, and it paired perfectly with the perfectly seasoned ajitamago (soft-boiled egg).

🍜 Umakara tonkotsu level 2 (with extra chashu)

This is the umakara tonkotsu level 2, with spice added to the rich tonkotsu base. Choosing level 2 brought a pleasant, lingering heat that felt like a great hangover cure! The thin noodles came up loaded with the spicy, savory broth between every strand, and the texture was excellent. The scallions on top matched the broth well, and I could feel the crunch of bean sprouts and bamboo shoots along with the noodles!

Tips to enjoy Okagura Ramen even more

💡 There were instructions at the front of the table on how to enjoy the ramen even more, so I tried it their way! They have various seasonings like rayu (chili oil), motodare (soy sauce), kombu vinegar, shichimi, and pepper, and they'll also give you raw garlic if you ask — worth knowing if you love garlic flavor!

Try enjoying the pure broth flavor first, then partway through the meal, add a little rayu sauce, pepper, or garlic from the table! You can experience several different flavors from a single bowl.

Rich, deep broth, springy noodles, and kind, thoughtful service — all three came together perfectly at Okagura Ramen, an Itaewon ramen restaurant. You can spend a cozy time together with delicious ramen, so I recommend it as a Yongsan date spot 😋👍
