Looking for a nice-atmosphere dinner spot near Gongdeok Station, I ended up visiting Okjoban Gongdeok Station branch.

I'd been here before but had shabu-shabu that time, so this time I tried the sukiyaki instead.

Even at the same restaurant, switching menus makes for a completely different experience — so I think this could work well for anyone looking for a Gongdeok Station date restaurant.

Full spread of the Dinner B set sukiyaki with beef

With the Dinner B set, I got sukiyaki beef with various vegetables and even kimchi fried rice at the end. It's still delicious, the place is clean and the staff are kind — a Gongdeok Station restaurant I can easily recommend.

What comes with the Dinner B sukiyaki set at 22,900 won per person

This time at Okjoban Gongdeok Station branch, I ordered the Dinner B set sukiyaki with beef. It's ₩22,900 per person, so ₩45,800 total for two.

It comes with US beef eye of round, fresh vegetables, raw egg, ginkgo nuts, konjac, and tofu, and you can choose kimchi fried rice or yaki-udon as your final dish.

Sukiyaki pot cooked by staff

Being able to enjoy meat and vegetables together makes it a pretty substantial dinner option. The staff cooked it for us almost right up until we started eating, so we could just relax and enjoy the meal.

How is sukiyaki broth different from shabu-shabu?

Shabu-shabu and sukiyaki might look similar, but the vibe is actually quite different once you eat them.

Sukiyaki has a sweet, savory soy-based broth that soaks into the ingredients, giving you a rich flavor.

The beef eye of round wasn't too thick, so it was easy to cook, and eating it with the sweet broth made it go down smoothly.

Sukiyaki beef dipped in raw egg

Dipping the sukiyaki in the raw egg especially softens the salty flavor even more.

Can you refill the vegetables at Okjoban?

The sukiyaki at Okjoban Gongdeok Station branch comes with not just meat but a variety of vegetables. Fresh vegetables along with konjac, tofu, and ginkgo nuts are included, so there's fun in picking out different ingredients while eating the meat.

And refills are possible — I got my first refill in the red box, and a second refill in the black box.

Part of the charm of sukiyaki is that the broth soaks fully into each ingredient, giving each one a different texture and flavor.

Tofu, konjac, and vegetables soaked in broth

Rather than just eating meat the whole time, having vegetables and tofu together made the meal feel a bit more filling and varied.

Finishing with mozzarella kimchi fried rice for 3,000 won extra

Once you've eaten enough of the sukiyaki, you get to choose your finishing dish — a hearty, filling way to end the meal.

This time I could choose between kimchi fried rice and yaki-udon, and I paid an extra ₩3,000 for the mozzarella kimchi fried rice.

Starting with meat and vegetables and finishing with a full meal like this meant nothing was missing from the experience.
