I suddenly had a craving for marinated ribs after a long while, so I went out for pork galbi. This time I visited Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch.

It wasn't far from Balsan Station, so it was easy to find.
How much space is there between tables?
As soon as I walked into Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch, the atmosphere felt more upscale than I expected.

Unlike a typical Korean BBQ place with tables crammed together, there was plenty of space between tables, and the tables themselves were large, making it comfortable to eat.
The overall mood was clean and calm, so I thought it would work not just for family outings but also for meals with parents or important guests.

Menu and what we ordered at Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga

We ordered two servings of marinated pork ribs (300g each), bibim-naengmyeon, and drinks.
What side dishes come with the meal?

After ordering, the side dishes came out first — salad, potato salad, pickles, shredded scallion, and baek-kimchi (white radish kimchi), all neatly arranged. Everything felt carefully prepared here, down to the smallest detail.
The first thing I reached for was the potato salad! The first bite gave a nutty, fluffy potato flavor. It wasn't fully mashed into smooth mush — small potato chunks were mixed in, so there was a nice bite to it. Soft going down, then a little pop of potato texture — I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit.
The salad had crisp, fresh vegetables with a refreshing, faintly sweet dressing that whetted the appetite. Between bites, the crisp salad and baek-kimchi cleaned the palate nicely.
Marinated pork ribs, 300g x 2, grilled with pear juice poured over

After a short wait, the marinated pork ribs finally arrived. What stood out most was watching pear juice being poured over the marinated ribs.
I heard that Ihwajeong's ribs get their natural umami not from artificial sugar sweetness but from grated, carefully selected organic pears used in the aging marinade. Maybe that's why, when I actually tasted it, the sweetness wasn't a sharp hit on the tongue — it came through more gently as you chewed the meat.

Marinated ribs are honestly tricky to grill even at home. Because of the marinade, the surface can char quickly if grilled too long, but if you keep the heat low to avoid overcooking, the meat can lose moisture and turn dry.
Here, the staff grilled it for us, so we could just relax and eat.

I picked up a well-grilled piece and tried it — the meat had more thickness than I expected, which made for a satisfying chew.

The first thing I noticed was the sweet aroma of the marinade, and as I chewed, juicy meat juices came through. Unlike thin-cut meat where only the marinade flavor stands out, here I could really feel the texture of the meat alongside it, which I liked.

The marinade was evenly soaked into the surface of the meat, so there weren't any overly salty or overly sweet spots at the edges — the seasoning was balanced throughout.

A piece of pork galbi was delicious on its own, but I especially liked pairing it with baek-kimchi. Eating them together brought a cool, crisp bite that cleaned up the palate, which made me reach for another piece of galbi again, haha. Paired with shredded scallion, the crisp texture and sharp scallion aroma added another dimension, and with pickles, the sweetness of the marinated ribs paired nicely too.

The staff grilled everything and cut the meat for us as we ate so the juices wouldn't escape. Since 300g is one serving, two servings for two people turned out to be a generous amount.
Bibim-naengmyeon that won over a mul-naengmyeon fan
The bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles) had noodles that weren't overly soft — they had a nice chewy bite.

The sauce wasn't overly spicy or salty either — it had a well-balanced tangy, sweet-and-spicy flavor that went well with the marinated ribs.

I'm usually a mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) person, but the bibim (mixed) version here suited my taste too!

Wrapping a piece of marinated rib in the noodles and eating them together was definitely a great combination — the sweet, savory ribs paired with the tangy-spicy noodles.
Pear sherbet for dessert
As the meal was wrapping up, I also ordered pear sherbet for dessert.
Eating it, I thought Ihwajeong really seemed devoted to pear from start to finish, haha. Pear juice adds natural sweetness to the ribs, and then it finishes with pear sherbet!

One spoonful gave a familiar yet refined pear flavor. Personally, it felt like a cleaner, more elevated version of a tank-boy popsicle.

The pear's distinctive cool sweetness spread through my mouth, clearing away the lingering rich flavor of the marinade left over from the ribs.
Being a sherbet, it also had a cold, crunchy texture, which suited a post-meat dessert especially well. It wasn't a heavy or overly strong dessert, so it made for a light finish after the meal. Since the sweet pear flavor is familiar, I think it's the kind of dessert anyone, of any age, could enjoy without hesitation.
Is Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga good for a family meal or a parents' first meeting?
What I felt throughout the meal was how spacious everything was. So this place would be worth considering for a first meeting between families or a family dinner too.
If you're looking for a great Korean BBQ restaurant near Balsan Station and want to eat pork galbi in a clean, refined setting, I strongly recommend Ihwajeong Galbi Myeongga Magok-Balsan Branch!
