Flounder sashimi to-go at Daecheonhang Fish Market, Boryeong: Nokdo
In short
Nokdo Susan is a seafood shop inside Daecheonhang Fish Market in Boryeong, Chungnam, where you pick your sashimi straight from the tank and they clean and pack it for you on the spot. A small flounder (₩35,000) and one in-season squid (₩20,000) came back to the accommodation with us — the flounder was chewy with no fishy taste and the squid was springy and fresh. It was a satisfying, affordable meal for two eaten back at our stay.

We were looking for sashimi to eat back at our accommodation at Daecheonhang Fish Market when we came across Nokdo Susan.
We bought flounder and in-season squid at a reasonable price, and they sliced it fresh and packed it carefully so we could enjoy it back at the stay.

On this trip to Boryeong, we stopped by Daecheonhang Fish Market to pick up sashimi to eat comfortably at our accommodation.
Freshness and price both matter when eating sashimi on a trip. There were several fish shops to browse at Daecheonhang Fish Market, and we ended up heading toward Nokdo Susan.

Picking sashimi at Daecheonhang Fish Market
As we looked around the market at different seafood shops, what caught our eye about Nokdo Susan was how cleanly they kept their tanks.

The water in the tanks was kept clean, and we liked being able to check and choose the seafood ourselves.
On this visit, in-season squid also caught our eye, so we decided to have it alongside the flounder.

When traveling, rather than preparing an elaborate meal at the accommodation, it's much easier to pick sashimi straight from the market and pack it to go.
Since we wanted to check both price and condition ourselves while looking for a Boryeong sashimi restaurant, being able to see and choose in person was a real plus.

From flounder to squid, prices that don't feel like a burden!!
On this day, flounder was priced by size.
- Flounder (small) ₩35,000
- Medium ₩40,000
- Large ₩45,000
Since the price gap between sizes wasn't huge, we went with the small size, thinking about how much the two of us could eat.

We also added one squid that was in season, priced at ₩20,000.
Even getting both flounder and squid, the total was a reasonable amount for two people to eat at the accommodation — good for a meal during the trip.

More important than just finding a cheap place was being able to actually see the condition of the seafood before choosing.
Looking closely, both the flounder and the squid looked to be in good condition, which was satisfying. So on this visit to Daecheonhang Fish Market, we went with both flounder and squid.

You can rest while waiting for the sashimi to be prepared
While waiting for the sashimi to be sliced, we could sit inside the shop and have some coffee. Since traveling means a lot of walking around, having a spot to sit and wait was quietly nice.
There's also a mart nearby, so it was convenient to pick up drinks or simple snacks to go with the sashimi at the accommodation.
The sashimi we picked was sliced right away
Once we chose our sashimi, the owner sliced it for us on the spot. One of the most convenient things about visiting a fish market is being able to pick your own fish and have it prepared and packed right away.
The flounder and squid we picked were sliced into easy-to-eat pieces, and after a short wait we got our packed sashimi.

They packed it carefully too
Since we had to carry the sashimi all the way back to our accommodation, we checked how it was packed. The flounder and squid sashimi were each arranged neatly and packed carefully so nothing would shift.

Even though we ordered the small size of flounder, once we saw the packed portion, it was surprisingly generous. It was plenty for two people as a meal at the accommodation, and also good to pair with other side dishes.
The flounder sashimi tasted even better back at the accommodation
We brought the packed sashimi back to our accommodation and dug in properly. The flounder had clean, chewy flesh, and the more we chewed, the more we liked its mild, savory flavor.

Most importantly, there was almost no fishy taste, which mattered a lot and made it easy to eat. It was delicious dipped in chili paste or soy sauce, but at first we tried tasting the sashimi plain, without any sauce.

Maybe because it was in season, the squid had a springy, chewy texture that had its own charm, different from the flounder.
If we'd only had one type, it might have felt a bit lacking, but having both flounder and squid together, with their different textures and flavors, made it fun to eat them alternately.

Sitting comfortably at the accommodation, chatting about the trip while eating, had a completely different atmosphere from eating at a restaurant. Because we picked the sashimi ourselves at the market and packed it, the meal felt a bit more special.

If you're looking for sashimi to eat at your accommodation
Daecheonhang Fish Market was great because we could look around at various seafood ourselves and pick exactly what we wanted. If you're traveling and planning to eat sashimi at your accommodation like we did, picking flounder or other in-season seafood at the market and packing it to go is a good option.

Nokdo Susan in particular kept its tanks clean, and it was convenient that they sliced the flounder and squid we picked right away. Even ordering just the small size of flounder, the portion was more generous than expected, and adding the squid made it plenty for two people.

Being able to pick the exact sashimi we wanted without a big price burden made this a satisfying choice on this trip. If you're looking for a Boryeong sashimi restaurant to eat comfortably at your accommodation, it's worth stopping by Daecheonhang Fish Market and picking your own sashimi.

We went with flounder and in-season squid sashimi this time, and eating them happily at our accommodation was a nice way to close out our last meal of the trip. If you'd rather relax at your accommodation than travel around looking for a restaurant, packing sashimi from Daecheonhang Fish Market is one good way to do it.
