Hwaseong BBQ restaurant for 200g samgyeopsal, self-serve lettuce bar
In short
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Gaenari Park food alley in Bansong-dong, Hwaseong. Two orders of 200g samgyeopsal (pork belly) and two bowls of rice disappeared fast once thick-cut pork was wrapped in fresh lettuce from the self-serve bar. The kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) named in the restaurant's own title is next on the list to try.

I went to Dongtan for samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) and ended up polishing off a whole bowl of rice because the meat was that good. This time I visited Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal. Going by the name you'd think kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) first, but we were craving samgyeopsal that day, so we ordered two servings of samgyeopsal plus two bowls of rice.
Bottom line first: the meat was delicious. Between wrapping bites of pork in lettuce, a whole bowl of rice vanished in no time, haha.

Atmosphere and group seating

The restaurant had group seating set up for larger parties. It looked like it could accommodate anywhere from a small group to a bigger crowd, which is great if you're coming to eat meat with a lot of people.
Menu and samgyeopsal price

The menu included kimchi jjigae, duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork), samgyeop kimchi-jjim (pork belly braised with kimchi), and samgyeopsal. The samgyeopsal we ordered was ₩15,000 for 200g per serving. We ordered two servings of samgyeopsal along with two bowls of rice.
Trying two servings of samgyeopsal

Once the samgyeopsal arrived, I could see it wasn't too thin — nicely thick-cut. The lean meat and fat were well balanced, and it grilled up golden brown on the pan.
Grilling samgyeopsal is always the hardest part — you have to sit there smelling it while you wait, haha. I grabbed a well-cooked piece as soon as it was ready, and it was savory with no gamey smell at all. I didn't even need to add much else — the meat alone kept me reaching for more. I came looking for a good restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, and out of everything we ate that day, the samgyeopsal was definitely the most memorable.

Overall the meat was tasty and the side dishes were clean and fresh, making for a pleasant meal. It was also great being able to freely grab fresh lettuce and side dishes from the self-serve bar. Next time I'd like to try the samgyeopsal together with the kimchi jjigae. This is a place I'd want to come back to whenever I'm craving samgyeopsal in Dongtan :)
Fresh lettuce and side dishes at the self-serve bar

Another convenient thing about eating meat here was the separate self-serve bar. Whenever a side dish ran low, we could just grab as much as we needed ourselves, and the lettuce was nice and fresh. I love a good lettuce wrap with samgyeopsal, so I piled a well-cooked piece of pork onto the lettuce along with some side dishes for one big bite.

Add rice into the mix and a whole bowl really does disappear fast, haha. Rice is ₩1,000 per bowl, and we each ordered one.

Since kimchi jjigae is literally in the restaurant's name, it's clearly a signature dish too. We only had samgyeopsal this time, so I'll be checking out the kimchi jjigae on the next visit.

Would I go back? My honest take
The samgyeopsal was great, and being able to freely grab lettuce and side dishes from the self-serve bar was a real plus. The lettuce especially was so fresh that wrapping bite after bite of pork in it emptied our rice bowls completely. I came here looking for a good restaurant in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, and after enjoying the samgyeopsal this time, I'll definitely have to try the kimchi jjigae next.

Samgyeopsal was delicious! Lettuce was fresh and the self-serve bar made things easy. A whole bowl of rice disappears in no time, haha. 100% would come back ❤️
Overall, the meat tasted great and the side dishes were clean, making for a satisfying meal. Having a self-serve bar for lettuce and side dishes was a nice touch too. If you're looking for good samgyeopsal in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, give this place a try. Recommended :)
