Full spread of gyeongyangsik pork cutlet at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch

I was craving pork cutlet in Sanbon and while looking around I found a restaurant with such a cute name — Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang (온정경양식당) Sanbon Academy District Branch. The cutlet was delicious, but what really stuck with me was the warm atmosphere and kindness, just like the name suggests.

To cut to the chase, I would 100% go back :) I went for the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet and was surprised once by the mushroom soup, and again when I made a pork cutlet burger with the morning bread — haha, very satisfying.

Where is Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in Sanbon, and what does it look like?

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch sits near Gwangjeong Elementary School. If you're looking for lunch around Sanbon Jeil Hospital or the Sanbon academy district, it's a solid pick. There's no dedicated lot in front, but there's a public parking lot nearby so driving there is doable. I'll put the full parking details at the bottom of the post :)

Entrance of Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang with yellow and wood tones

Even before going in, the yellow and warm wood tones caught my eye. Maybe because the name is 'Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang' (warm-hearted Western restaurant), the whole vibe felt cozy. When I opened the door, the female owner working near the kitchen greeted me with a bright smile. Being welcomed so kindly right from the start put me in a great mood :)

Inside Onjeong: is it comfortable for a solo lunch in Sanbon?

A cozy interior — no pressure for a solo lunch in Sanbon!

The inside was bright and cozy. Not overly decorated — more like the comfortable neighborhood gyeongyangsik restaurant you'd wish you had nearby. That made me think it'd be a totally fine place to grab a solo lunch in Sanbon without feeling awkward.

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang menu and prices

You order through a kiosk. I got the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet for 13,000 won and the cheddar cheese pork cutlet for 13,500 won. I was curious about both, so I ended up trying two kinds — haha.

The menu had quite a few pork cutlet options — from the basic gyeongyangsik version to spicy pork cutlet, cheddar cheese pork cutlet, and curry pork cutlet. There were also noodle options, with set menus pairing pork cutlet with udon or cold buckwheat noodles. The green citron cold soba looked especially good — I'll try one of the set menus next time!

The self-serve bar with rice and morning bread, plus button mushroom soup

And here's the part I really loved — some pork cutlet places make you choose between rice or bread, but at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang you get both, standard!!

Plus, if you run out of rice, you can grab warm refills. Rice and side dishes are all self-serve, take as much as you need. The self-serve bar was also kept really clean, which raised my opinion of the place even more :)

Plate with two pork cutlets served alongside rice and morning bread

After a bit, the food arrived. Each plate had two generous pork cutlets, plus cabbage salad, morning bread, rice, and various sides. Having both a Western-style soup and a clear broth served together was also a nice touch.

I started with the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet. The breading was quite crispy — not hard, just the good kind of crunchy. Even as I ate slowly, that crispiness held up the whole time. The oil was clean, so it never got greasy even by the end.

Mushroom soup with generous mushroom chunks

And here comes my strong recommendation — the soup wasn't your typical cream soup, it was an actual mushroom soup! (With really substantial mushroom chunks too!!!)

This soup was genuinely so good. The distinct mushroom aroma blended perfectly with the smooth soup base, and it didn't taste thrown together — you could tell it was made with care. Honestly, this soup alone had me hooked before I even got to the cutlet — haha.

Gyeongyangsik sauce cutlet vs cheddar cheese cutlet at Onjeong

A layered house-made gyeongyangsik sauce & the appeal of thick cheddar cheese

The gyeongyangsik pork cutlet's highlight was the sauce. Instead of a simple sweet-and-salty cutlet sauce, it had layers of flavor, so I didn't get tired of it even after eating the whole plate. Even with a generous amount of sauce on top, the cutlet stayed crispy. If you care about sauce quality when hunting for the best pork cutlet spot in Sanbon, this is worth noting.

Then I tried the cheddar cheese pork cutlet for the first time. I love cheese, so this menu had me curious the moment I saw it. When it arrived, there was a generous, golden-yellow layer of cheddar cheese sauce piled on top.

One bite in — mmm, so good! This is a genuinely dangerous menu item for cheese lovers, haha. The rich, savory cheddar cheese combined with the crispy cutlet felt completely different from the gyeongyangsik version. If I had to pick just one, I'd struggle a lot. For eating something light for longer, go gyeongyangsik; when you're craving cheese, go cheddar cheese! Pick based on your mood.

How to build a pork cutlet burger with the morning bread

A delicious DIY pork cutlet burger made with morning bread

You could just eat the morning bread plain, but I tried this instead: split the bread, tuck in the cheese pork cutlet, add cabbage salad, and add a touch of strawberry jam. Pork cutlet burger complete!

This was surprisingly delicious, haha.

The crispy cutlet with the tangy salad and strawberry jam felt like I suddenly went from a regular gyeongyangsik meal to snack time. (Definitely try this combo, haha.)

Nearly empty pork cutlet plate

Mixing and matching everything like this, my plate ended up nearly spotless. I thought the portion was pretty large at first, but even with rice and bread, I cleared it all. Especially since the cutlet stayed crispy to the very end, I never had to put my fork down from greasiness.

Is Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in Sanbon worth a visit?

Overall thoughts: a meal that felt genuinely warm

In the end, what I liked most about this visit to a Sanbon pork cutlet restaurant wasn't just the food. The cutlet was delicious, but being greeted with a smile from the moment I walked in, and the relaxed vibe throughout the meal, were what really stood out. I get why it's called Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang :) I left feeling like I'd just had a warm home-cooked meal. It felt like finding a hidden gem — 'wait, there's a cute place like this in the neighborhood?' If I'm craving gyeongyangsik pork cutlet in Sanbon again, I'll definitely come back.

If you're looking for a Gunpo Sanbon restaurant that's not too crowded and comfortable to eat at, or a spot for a relaxed solo lunch in Sanbon, this place would suit you well. If you like gyeongyangsik pork cutlet, go for the basic; if you love cheese, go for the cheddar cheese cutlet. And if you visit, definitely try making the morning bread pork cutlet burger — haha. The food was great this time, but I also came away feeling the warmth of the people, and left in a really good mood.
