Sanbon pork cutlet restaurant with half-and-half spice: Onjeong

In short

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch is an old-school pork cutlet restaurant near Gwangjeong Elementary School in the Sanbon academy district of Gunpo, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered the udon and gyeongyangsik (old-school Western-style) pork cutlet set for 14,500 won and the buckwheat soba and spicy pork cutlet set for 15,000 won, refilled rice and salad at the free self-serve bar, and split the spicy cutlet half-and-half with the classic one. If you can't take heat, the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet is the safe order at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang.

Exterior of Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in the Sanbon academy district

Went out for pork cutlet in the Sanbon academy district :) This time I visited Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang, near Gwangjeong Elementary School.

Interior of Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang Sanbon Academy District Branch

What is the restaurant like inside? Under a year old and spotless

I thought it might be a fairly new place, and sure enough, it opened less than a year ago — the whole interior felt fresh and clean. The tables and chairs seemed well taken care of, which I liked!

There were a lot of families, but it also looked like a comfortable spot for solo dining.

Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang menu and set prices

I was searching for a good pork cutlet spot in Sanbon and landed here — they had quite a variety, from gyeongyangsik (old-school Western-style) pork cutlet to spicy, cheese, and curry pork cutlet. I ordered set menus.

  • Udon and gyeongyangsik pork cutlet: ₩14,500
  • Buckwheat soba and spicy pork cutlet: ₩15,000

Just a heads up — the set menus don't come with a huge amount of pork cutlet!

There's also a little space under the chairs for bags and belongings, so you don't have to set anything on the floor — nice touch. And I checked the country of origin!!! Rice, meat, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), and vegetables are all Korean-sourced~

Rice and salad self-serve bar at Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang

Free self-serve bar with unlimited rice and salad

What I really liked was the self-serve bar. At Onjeong you can help yourself to as much rice and salad as you want, which was great — if you want more salad while eating your cutlet, you can just go grab it.

Among Sanbon pork cutlet spots, I think one with a self-serve bar this well set up is a genuinely solid find :)

How big are the sets? Udon and soba feel like the main dish

The gyeongyangsik pork cutlet set and spicy pork cutlet set came out fast!! I was so surprised by the size of the udon and soba portions haha. Set menus usually don't come with this much... will I even be able to finish it all haha

Gyeongyangsik pork cutlet: old-school style with plenty of sauce

If you come to Onjeong, you have to try the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet. It's the old-school style with sauce piled on top, and since I love that style, I really enjoyed it.

The sauce pairs really well with the crispy cutlet, and with the soup and bread that come alongside it, it felt like nostalgic old-school Western food haha. If you're looking for a good pork cutlet spot in Sanbon, I'd personally recommend the gyeongyangsik cutlet above all. Note that the cutlet itself is on the thin side.

Udon: generous fried tofu and fish cake

The udon also had so much fried tofu and fish cake haha, I almost wondered if the udon was the actual main dish haha.

Spicy pork cutlet: much hotter than expected

I was curious about the spicy pork cutlet too, so I tried it, and it was way spicier than I expected haha. If you handle spice well it should be fine, but for a lightweight like me, I'd just recommend the gyeongyangsik cutlet instead...

Buckwheat soba: green citron (cheonggyul), not lime

The soba that came with the set was also a pretty generous portion, so eating it along with the cutlet left me completely full! I thought it was lime, but it turned out to be cheonggyul (green citron)! The salad has the same green citron in it haha.

Too spicy? Split the cutlets half-and-half

The spicy pork cutlet was too much for me, so I split it half-and-half with the gyeongyangsik cutlet haha. If you're coming with a group, I'd recommend splitting it this way~

Would I return to Onjeong Gyeongyangsikdang in Sanbon?

I found this place while searching for a good pork cutlet spot in Sanbon, and overall I was satisfied — the store was clean and the portions were generous! If you're near the Sanbon academy district looking for a clean pork cutlet restaurant, this could be a good pick.

Next time I'd probably skip the spicy cutlet and just order the gyeongyangsik cutlet on its own without the set haha. If you're looking for a good pork cutlet spot in Sanbon, I'd recommend Onjeong :) Personally, I highly recommend the gyeongyangsik pork cutlet here!
