Is this a good rice-bowl spot for eating alone near Ewha Womans University?

Sunhui Dining (순희다이닝) is a second-floor rice-bowl restaurant about eight minutes from Ewha Womans University Station and three minutes from Sinchon Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. It was quiet when I visited early, but I heard it gets busy at lunchtime and sometimes has a wait.

The window-side seating is at bar tables, so it looked like a nice place to eat alone, too. It was a good spot for a filling meal with friends before heading on to our next plans.

What are the menu and ordering process like?

We ordered by tablet, and the menu was simple: regular and spicy butadon (Japanese pork rice bowl), plus soboro heaped galbi rice bowls. There were not too many choices, so it was easy to decide.

What is available at the self-service bar?

The self-service bar had miso soup, salad, and baekgimchi (white kimchi), and you could take more rice from the rice cooker if you needed it. There were two salad dressings, black sesame and yuzu, along with wet wipes and hair ties.

How was the spicy butadon served?

The 36-hour-aged spicy butadon I ordered was ₩10,000. It came with nicely grilled pork, onion, scallions, shishito peppers, garlic flakes, and an egg yolk.

The portion of pork felt generous, and its smoky char made it nicely spicy. I have not had butadon very often, but it felt different from daechang-deopbap (beef intestine rice bowl).

What are the regular butadon and galbi rice bowl like?

My friend ordered the 36-hour-aged butadon for ₩9,500. I heard it was a little sweeter than the spicy version, with a flavor closer to teriyaki.

The soboro heaped galbi rice bowl was also ₩9,500, and it looked good for mixing the finely chopped galbi with the stir-fried kimchi in the middle.

We had a filling meal with friends, and the menu selection and window-side bar tables made it seem well suited to a solo meal, too.
