Today I wanted something more atmospheric than my usual simple Jeju meal, so I went looking for a proper course restaurant!? It's tucked into a quiet, old-fashioned Jeju village, so even the surroundings felt calm and good from the start. I visited Nansan-ri Restaurant (난산리식당) in Seongsan, Jeju — a spot I'd recommend for anniversaries or dates ✨

What is the atmosphere like inside Nansan-ri Restaurant?
Nansan-ri Restaurant sits deep inside a quiet countryside village in Seongsan, Jeju. It's far from the bustling tourist-spot feel — more calm and old-fashioned, so I felt relaxed from the moment I stepped in!
Inside, the interior is mostly wood with dark red accents, which gave it both an upscale and a warm feeling.
Especially near the windows, you could see Jeju's stone walls and lush green trees, which was so pretty.

The table setting was also neatly done —

They'd even written our name on the table for our reservation, which made me feel extra taken care of...🤍 These thoughtful little touches, noticed even before the meal started, made for a nice start.
How do you book a table at Nansan-ri Restaurant?
Nansan-ri Restaurant runs on reservations only, and lunch is split into a first seating at 11:30 and a second at 13:00. Lunch runs for 1 hour, and dinner has only one seating at 18:30! Same-day bookings need to be made by phone, and you can't request a specific table, so keep that in mind when reserving. Also, if you let them know about any foods you can't eat in advance, they'll prepare a substitute — a really thoughtful touch.

Wine pairing is also available, and you can pick straight from the wine cabinet — fun for anyone who knows their wine. (I'm a total wine novice so I passed haha.)

Nansan-ri Restaurant menu, prices and deposit
Nansan-ri Restaurant runs both lunch and dinner course meals. Lunch has 4-6 dishes and dinner 6-8, and the day's menu can change depending on the season and ingredients.
- Lunch – ₩38,000
- Dinner – ₩68,000
Because of frequent no-shows, they take a deposit — ₩20,000 per person for lunch and ₩35,000 for dinner! You pay the remaining balance after finishing your meal, so I'd recommend carefully checking all the required details when you book.

What comes with the 38,000 won lunch course, in order
The lunch course came in this order: bread → egg dish → salad → rosemary roasted potatoes → Jeju black pork tenderloin → pasta & house pickles → dessert! Everything came out one dish at a time rather than all at once, which made it easy to enjoy slowly.

🥖 Bread with gosari (fern) butter
The first thing to arrive was bread — a baguette with house-made fern (gosari) butter! I spread the fern butter on the baguette, and along with the nutty richness of the butter, I could faintly catch the fern's aroma.

I did wonder if that was really fern I was tasting haha, but either way, it had a different charm from regular butter and was delicious.

🥚 Caviar-topped egg dish
Next was a soft-boiled egg dish with tomato sauce and mushroom cream underneath and caviar on top! The truffle aroma was stronger than I expected, and the sauce was smooth and delicious.
It was tastiest when you scooped up the tomato sauce, mushroom cream, and egg together for a harmonious bite. With the soft egg mingling with several sauces, it felt like the perfect appetizer.

🥗 Romaine salad
A salad of romaine with caesar dressing, bacon, and parmesan! It was a light way to whet the appetite before the meal, and the bacon was scattered on in tiny pieces, almost like it had been grated.

The dressing was on the fresher, tangier side, so it went well with the salad, and it was also nice to reach for between courses to cleanse the palate.

🥔 Rosemary roasted potatoes
Honestly I'm more of a sweet-potato person than a potato person, so I didn't have high expectations for the roasted potatoes, but they were better than I thought haha.

The potatoes were large and soft, and eating them with the shishito peppers on top kept things from getting monotonous.

🥩 Jeju black pork tenderloin in myeoljeot cream sauce
And then, unsurprisingly the best dish of the meal — Jeju black pork tenderloin. It was a lightly seared black pork tenderloin steak topped with fermented anchovy (mel-jeot) cream sauce, caramelized onions, and whole-grain mustard.
It was so tender it practically melted and disappeared in my mouth, seriously hahaha.
The mel-jeot cream sauce in particular was distinctive — it paired really well with the black pork and was oddly addictive. The steak was thicker than I expected, so I felt full and satisfied by the end of it.

🍝 Chorizo oil spaghetti
The default pasta was chorizo oil spaghetti, and from the first bite, the aroma alone tasted like some kind of premium sausage!? It was oily with a slight kick of spice, though not so spicy that you'd really call it a 'spicy' dish haha.

The noodles were cooked just right, and it's a dish anyone who loves oil pasta will be very happy with!

🌿 Basil pesto spaghetti (extra 3,000 won)
My partner prefers basil to oil pasta, so we paid the extra ₩3,000 to swap for basil pesto spaghetti. Even the color showed a strong basil scent, and tasting it, they really hadn't held back on the basil — the flavor was quite intense!

Mixing in the cheese on top added extra nuttiness and made it even better. If you're someone who loves basil, it's worth paying the extra ₩3,000 for the swap.

🥒 House-made pickles
The house pickles that came with the pasta were great for cleansing the palate in between bites. Alternating a bite of pasta with a bite of pickle kept my mouth feeling fresh right through to the end.

🍮 Panna cotta
The final dessert was panna cotta! A soft, pudding-like dessert with a layer of Oreo cookie underneath and blueberry compote on top.

Scooping from top to bottom in one bite, you get the soft panna cotta, the sweetness of the Oreo, and the tang of the blueberry compote all together — delicious. Ending the course on a sweet note left me feeling good all the way through 🤍
