On a day when I wanted a bowl of rice swimming in hot soup, I went looking for a solid lunch spot in Dangsan and ended up at Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch, a well-known Dangsan Station lunch spot.

Centered on gukbap, the menu also had sides like sundae (blood sausage) and suyuk (boiled pork) to pair with it, which made choosing easy. It felt fine to eat alone simply, and just as good for a group sharing gukbap and sides.

Above all, the generously set table meant I walked out completely full.

Where is Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch and how do you get there?

Taking the subway, it was about a 3-minute walk from Exit 5 of Seonyudo Station on Line 9, so it wasn't hard to find.

You can see the store just by walking along the main road, Yangpyeong-ro, without needing to head into any side alleys. It's also walkable from Dangsan Station, making it a convenient spot when looking for a meal near Dangsan or Seonyudo.

The interior has a tidy, refined Korean-restaurant feel.

An interesting touch was that they're running a Wandduk Challenge (finish-your-bowl challenge). Finish it all, and luck comes to you!

The menu at Deundeun Haejanggukbap: gukbap, sets, and evening dishes

The menu at Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch was broad, ranging from gukbap to sets and evening dishes meant to go with drinks. Besides the basic pork gukbap, there's sundae gukbap and a version with only sundae, and if a single bowl feels like too little, you can pick a set that adds warm suyuk (boiled pork) or tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties). The signature Deundeun Jeongsik gukbap set comes with pork gukbap, tteokgalbi, warm suyuk, and seasoned chives all together, so you can taste several dishes at once.

For evening menus, there's sundae and suyuk as well as soupy dishes for drinking, like sundae jeongol (hot pot) and gopchang jeongol. Makgeolli can even be ordered by the glass. You could finish with just one bowl of gukbap, add sides for a fuller meal, or go all the way to a hot pot — the menu range was wide.

What I ordered: spicy sundaeguk (blood sausage soup)!!!

Chives and ssamjang set up at the self-serve bar

Free chives and cypress-steamed sundae at the self-serve bar

The basic side dishes are set on the table first. You can grab more from the self-serve bar! I really loved that the water served was heotgae tea.

Off to one side was a self-serve bar where you could grab whatever sides you needed. There was kimchi and kkakdugi that go well with gukbap, plus onion, chili, and ssamjang as basics, and chives piled up generously. The chives especially were great since you could add as much as you wanted to the soup. I tasted the broth plain at first, then loaded on chives partway through, and the aroma and texture completely changed the experience. It was also convenient not having to call a staff member when a side ran low — you could just grab as much as you needed.

What especially caught my eye at the self-serve bar was the pyeonbaek blood sausage stew. You could help yourself to warm sundae straight from it, so I was snacking on pieces even before the gukbap arrived. The pyeonbaek stew held plenty of sausage, and eating it hot, the inside was moist while the outside stayed soft. It was great on its own, but with a bit of chive from the self-serve bar or a dip in ssamjang, a whole plate disappeared fast. It was a nice light bite to have while waiting for the gukbap, and I liked that you could enjoy it without ordering sundae separately.

Sundae and sauces in the pyeonbaek steamer

Just as described, they gave a generous amount of deulcho sauce, and I even grabbed some hwangma sauce too!!

The spoons are so cute!!

Dipping it thoroughly in the deulcho sauce like this is delicious. The hwangma sauce went well too! And topping it with salted shrimp is just the fundamentals.

There was also a review event to grab after eating. Leaving a review got you Excellent ice cream, which was a great cool, sweet way to cleanse the palate after a piping-hot gukbap. Since it's a familiar Excellent ice cream, it felt easy to just enjoy one without a second thought, and I could wrap up everything from gukbap to dessert in one seat.

How much pork and sundae is in the spicy sundaeguk?

After a short wait, the spicy sundaeguk arrived bubbling away in an earthenware pot.

The amount of sundae and meat packed in was incredible. The broth's color was already deep, so just looking at it, you could tell it would taste bold and spicy. Piling on the chives I'd grabbed from the self-serve bar made it even more generous. It was the kind of dish that comes to mind not just on cold days, but any day you want to fill your stomach with something hot.

The buckwheat pancake you can add as a set

Since gukbap alone felt like a bit too little, I added the buckwheat pancake from the set menu. The golden, pan-fried pancake was slightly crispy on the outside, with a spicy filling packed inside. Biting in, you got the chewy buckwheat skin together with crunchy filling.

Taking a spoonful of the hot spicy sundaeguk broth and then a bite of the pancake changed up the texture, making it fun to alternate between the two. The portion was just right to pair with the gukbap, so if you want to add one side dish, this combo works well.

I kept going back for more of the pyeonbaek blood sausage stew. It seems like it would go really well with soju!!

There was way more meat than I expected. It wasn't just a few pieces — every time I dipped the spoon in, meat came up with it, that's how generous the portion was. The thick-cut meat had no off smell and chewed soft, and with the sundae in there too, the solid ingredients alone were pretty filling. Even before mixing in rice, I was pulling out meat and sundae, and I understood why the bowl felt so heavy. The spicy broth had soaked into the meat, so it tasted great even without dipping it in any extra sauce.

Mint candy and dessert corner after the meal

There was mint candy to finish!! Coffee too!!

Verdict: a hot bowl of gukbap near Dangsan

Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch is worth a stop when you're craving hot gukbap in Dangsan. The spicy sundaeguk was loaded with meat and sundae, so a single bowl left me completely full, and the bold, spicy broth stayed delicious until the last spoonful. Adding the buckwheat pancake from the set on top made the portion more than enough.

It was also impressive that you could take as many side dishes and as much chive as you needed from the self-serve bar, and that pyeonbaek blood sausage stew was available too. After the meal, I wrapped things up with Excellent ice cream from the review event as dessert. A Dangsan Station lunch spot! Worth visiting near Seonyudo Station whenever you're craving a hot, generous meal like sundaeguk or haejangguk.
