While looking for a place near Seonyudo Station where I could eat or drink late into the night, I found a 24-hour gukbap (pork bone soup) restaurant in Yeongdeungpo 🍲 Deundeun Haejanggukbap Seonyudo Station Branch.

Where is Deundeun Haejanggukbap? Two minutes from Seonyudo Station Exit 5

Deundeun is just 2 minutes from Exit 5 of Seonyudo Station. It's a great fit not just for lunch but also for evenings when you want to have hot pot with a drink.

Signage near the entrance and interior view

I also noticed a fun banner on one wall: it's a "finish-the-bowl" challenge — drain your soup completely and you can check the bottom of the bowl to see if you've won. If you win, that bowl of gukbap is free, which seems worth a shot for any gukbap lover.

Rather than the loud, bustling vibe you'd expect from a gukbap restaurant, the interior has a tidy, hanok-inspired feel. Soft round lights hang from the ceiling and the tables are spaced generously, making it comfortable whether you're eating solo or with a group.

Every table has a tablet menu, and the system is prepay at lunch, pay-after at dinner. They even had table setting mats ready, which felt like a thoughtful touch.

What to order at Deundeun Haejanggukbap

There are hearty hot pot and cooked-dish sets like the Signature Samhap Drinking Set, the Sundae Jjajaeuli Set, and the Boiled Pork Set, alongside a wide range of single gukbap dishes — from full meals to drinking snacks. To eat well, we ordered the signature set (choosing pork gukbap), a single pork gukbap, and a cup of Songnisan makgeolli on the side.

Origin-of-ingredients sign posted in the restaurant
Deundeun Haejanggukbap's ingredient origin sign

A large sign displaying the ingredients' origins is posted on one wall of the restaurant, and the head meat, sundae (blood sausage), and tripe used in the gukbap are all domestically sourced, which made eating even more reassuring.

Spicy peppers, refreshing diced radish kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, and ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) were set down at lightning speed. Any extra side dishes, garlic, or chives can be grabbed from the self-serve bar.

The happiness of a 900-won cup of Songnisan makgeolli. It's a great pick when ordering a whole bottle feels like too much. One sweet, tangy sip nicely woke up my appetite before the meal.

Is the self-serve hinoki-steamed sundae really unlimited?

The self-serve bar at the center of Deundeun has chives and various side dishes essential to pork gukbap laid out neatly. The diced radish kimchi in particular was so well fermented I think I went back for it two or three times.

Special sauces for the sundae, including deulcho sauce and hwangma sauce

The most surprising part — the hinoki-steamed sundae (chapssal sundae) is kept warm in a huge steamer and served completely unlimited!

They also had neatly arranged special sauces to dip it in — deulcho sauce (perilla powder, apple vinegar-chili sauce, sesame oil) and hwangma sauce — so you could try it however suited your taste.

What comes in the brass-bowl signature set

After a short wait, a generous spread arrived along with tidy brass bowls and dishes.

The boiled pork plate that comes with the signature set holds tender, warm boiled pork, tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patty), and spicy chive salad. Piled high with the sundae we'd grabbed from the self-serve bar, the table became fully loaded with no empty space.

A signature set spread that looks hearty just from the sight of it.

The boiled pork went down smooth with no gamey smell, and the tteokgalbi topped with a sweet-salty sauce was rice-thief good — putting the chive salad on top of the meat brought the savory flavor right out.

How does the pork gukbap broth and meat taste?

The pork gukbap arrived bubbling hot, filled to the brim in its stone bowl. Scooping up a big spoonful revealed thinly sliced head meat and lean meat packed in — the meat wasn't dry at all but had a chewy yet tender texture with real bite to it.

You've got to load up pork gukbap with a big scoop of chives — that's the real way to eat it. Piling in plenty of chives and tasting the clean, refreshing broth, you could really feel why it's a well-known 24-hour gukbap spot in Yeongdeungpo.

The base seasoning isn't overly strong, so it's easy to adjust to your taste with the salted shrimp, perilla powder, and pepper on the table.

Taking a big scoop with the diced radish kimchi warmed me right up and left me feeling full and satisfied — there was so much meat that I stayed full the whole way through finishing the rice mixed into the soup.

Stone bowl completely emptied for the finish-the-bowl challenge

I didn't win the challenge, but I did finish the bowl completely 😌. The combination of a hot gukbap set, unlimited refills of the hinoki-steamed sundae, and a light cup of makgeolli on the side was more than enough to wash away a day's fatigue. Next time, I think I'll come back late at night or early morning when I need a hangover cure, or when I want a hearty hot pot with a drink.

Being open 24 hours, so you can drop in anytime without any time constraints, was the biggest charm of Deundeun Haejanggukbap. If you're near Seonyudo Station looking for a filling lunch or a deep, rich soup dish, I recommend Deundeun Haejanggukbap, a 24-hour gukbap restaurant in Yeongdeungpo 🍲👍🏻
