Mapo bar with iced draft beer to go and brisket nachos: Macho Nacho

In short

Macho Nacho is a nacho bar on Huiujeong-ro in Mapo, Seoul, right on the way to Mangwon Hangang Park. Mid-picnic we walked over and took out beef brisket nachos for 13,900 won and a draft Terra beer packed in ice, which stayed cold on the picnic mat to the last sip. After a first round of chicken or pizza, Macho Nacho takeout is an easy pick for a light second-round snack and drink.

Where is Macho Nacho, and what are its hours?

Today's post is a strong recommendation for anyone picnicking at Mangwon Hangang Park: Macho Nacho, a Mangwon Hangang Park favorite.

  • Hours: 17:00 – 1:00 AM
  • Fri/Sat/Sun opens at 13:00
  • Closed Tuesdays

Macho Nacho sits right along the path to Mangwon Hangang Park, so it's an easy stop on the way to the river. We actually did it the other way around — we were already picnicking and walked over to pick up takeout — and it was just as easy coming from the park side, an easy walk.

Inside Macho Nacho and how the draft beer is packed in ice

The inside of Macho Nacho. As the name suggests, the main menu is nachos, and there's a huge variety of them. One thing I especially recommend is that they'll pack draft beer to go — the draft was really well maintained and tasted great, and I loved that they packed it in ice.

Besides takeout, there are also seats inside if you want to eat in.

Macho Nacho carries a wide range of drinks — not just draft beer, but also wine, soju, cocktails, and more.

What comes in the 13,900 won beef brisket nachos?

There are many kinds of nachos, and what I ordered that day was the beef brisket nachos for ₩13,900. I didn't try anything else, but the smoky flavor and overall taste of the brisket nachos I did try were excellent — recommended.

Beyond nachos, there are also plenty of other drinking snack options.

They also sell wine in the store — 4 reds and 4 whites.

They packed it full of ice like this, so we could drink it cold the whole time during the picnic.

And the brisket nachos — the portion and taste surprised me, bigger and better than expected.

How the nachos tasted on a picnic mat at Mangwon Hangang Park

We headed back to the spot we'd already claimed at Mangwon Hangang Park.

The draft beer was so smooth and clean, genuinely delicious. People might think draft beer is all the same, but if a place doesn't maintain its beer machine properly, you can end up with a bitter or off-tasting pour.

And then the main event — the beef brisket nachos.

The portion was genuinely huge, and oddly enough, I'm usually not much of a plain nacho fan, but once it's built up as a proper Mexican-style dish with all the toppings and sauce, it's really delicious.

You crush the nachos with a spoon, mix everything together, and eat it little by little — worked great as a drinking snack too.

The best way to eat Macho Nacho's nachos

Crush the nachos into small pieces with a spoon. Once crushed, mix well so the sauce coats everything — that's it!

I scooped a bit too much in the photo above — taking about 60-70% of that amount per bite made it a lot more manageable as a drinking snack.

Why Macho Nacho works for round two at a Han River picnic

Most food delivered to Mangwon Hangang Park tends to be the kind that fills you up — chicken, pizza, Korean snack food and so on — for round one. Once that's done and you just want something simple to go with beer or drinks, like we did, I'd recommend picking up takeout from Macho Nacho.

Picnic spot scenery at Mangwon Hangang Park

It's close enough to walk to, and if there are three or more of you and nobody wants to go, it'd work fine to play rock-paper-scissors and send the loser to pick it up.

Nice weather, good beer, good food — this is exactly what a picnic should be, I thought that day.

A plate of smoky beef brisket nachos

The brisket had plenty of that smoky char too. We also had red wine on hand, so once we finished the beer, we switched to nachos with red wine — and that pairing worked surprisingly well too.

Anyway, if you're looking for delivery or takeout food for a picnic at Mangwon Hangang Park, definitely check out Macho Nacho.
