Korean restaurant in Ansan with self-serve veggie fridge and sikhye

In short

Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch is a gondre-bap (gondre rice) Korean set-meal restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gojan Praum City in Gojan-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. I tried the 2-person Yeongwol Muleungdowon set (₩40,000), plus the fresh wrap-vegetable fridge with a cold-blocking curtain, the traditional drink corner with sikhye and plum tea, and the self-serve side dish and rice refill stations. It's a great pick when you want a light, vegetable-forward meal that isn't heavy or overly seasoned.

Korean set meal spread at Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch

Today I'm sharing an honest review of a Korean-restaurant spot I visited in Ansan, Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch, on a sponsored visit.

I usually gravitate toward light, clean Korean food, and this place delivered — not overly seasoned, with neat side dishes and a pleasant atmosphere. I left in a good mood.

Parking and location — 2nd floor of Gojan Praum City

There's ample parking inside the building, so driving there is convenient, and it's right in the heart of Gojan-dong, so access is excellent.

Stepping into the 2nd floor hallway, you're greeted by a neatly arranged entrance with comfortable sofa seating for waiting guests, both outside and inside — a thoughtful first impression.

Interior atmosphere and the handwashing sink

Inside, warm wood tones and soft lighting create a calm, upscale feel. The tables are spaced generously, making it easy to have a quiet, private conversation while eating.

Dedicated handwashing sink just inside the entrance

One detail that stood out: just inside the entrance there's a dedicated sink for washing hands before or after eating, fully stocked with hand sanitizer and paper towels — it really boosted my confidence in the place's hygiene standards. You can also order through the Baedal Minjok delivery app, so you can enjoy tidy Korean food at home too.

What's in the Yeongwol Muleungdowon set (2 people, ₩40,000)

What I tried that day was the hearty 2-person shared set, the 'Yeongwol Muleungdowon jeongsik' (₩40,000). It comes with three mains — Yeongwol stir-fried pork, grilled mackerel, and farmhouse-style doenjang (soybean paste) stew — along with a generous, neatly arranged spread of side dishes.

It wasn't greasy or heavy at all — the whole spread felt healthy, and I could enjoy it comfortably to the last bite.

Golden, crisply grilled mackerel

The mackerel comes out grilled golden and crisp, with no fishy smell — the flesh was moist and clean-tasting, and it paired really well with the gondre rice.

Yeongwol stir-fried pork with a hint of smoky flavor

The stir-fried pork wasn't overly spicy or sweet, with just a hint of smoky char, and it was great alongside the fresh wrap vegetables.

Farmhouse-style doenjang stew with gondre rice

The farmhouse-style doenjang stew had that deep, savory flavor of good doenjang — mixed into the gondre rice, it disappeared in no time.

What about the side dishes?

One of the biggest strengths of Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch is the neat, healthy side dishes — great for anyone tired of overly seasoned food, or who just prefers lighter fare.

Fresh kimchi, kelp wraps and other vegetable side dishes

The lineup felt geared toward lighter tastes: nutty, crunchy lotus root salad, a salad with a tangy dressing, clean seasoned namul (vegetable sides), pickles, tangy-sweet fresh kimchi, and kelp wraps — a good variety of vegetable-forward, not-too-heavy sides. Nothing was too salty, so I could happily eat the sides on their own.

Self-serve side dish bar, rice refills, and the fresh wrap-vegetable fridge

There's a self-serve side dish corner, so if you want more of anything, you can freely help yourself without hesitation. (There is a ₩2,000 eco fee notice, so it's good manners to take only what you'll actually eat.)

Rice refill station with white rice and gondre rice pots

There's also a rice refill corner, with pots of warm white rice and fragrant gondre rice, so you can enjoy as much of that lightly fragrant rice as you like.

The fresh wrap-vegetable fridge has a cold-blocking curtain — open it up and you'll find a misty, cool fridge stocked with crisp lettuce, kale, red chard, and more, kept fresh and crunchy. It made wrapping your own bites even more fun.

Traditional drink corner after the meal — sikhye and plum tea

There's also a traditional drink corner to cleanse your palate after eating. You can freely pour yourself cool sikhye (sweet rice punch) with thin ice flakes floating on top, or tangy-sweet plum tea that aids digestion. Finishing with a clean glass of sikhye left my mouth feeling refreshed.

What are the private rooms like? Family gatherings and work dinners

To one side of the restaurant there are several independent private rooms. The main hall is already pleasant, but the rooms are well set up too, so you can eat privately without bothering other guests. They'd be perfect for a family meal with your parents, or celebrations like baek-il (100-day), first birthday parties, 70th birthdays, or a company dinner. If you're planning a group gathering or family outing, I'd recommend booking a room in advance!

Final thoughts

Between the clean, not-too-strong side dishes, the fresh wrap vegetables, and the fragrant gondre rice, this was a satisfying full-course meal. The private rooms are also well set up, making it a great spot for gatherings with people who matter to you. I'd recommend it whenever you want a light, tidy meal that's easy on the stomach!

If you're near Gojan-dong in Ansan looking for a neat, well-rounded Korean set meal, Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch — known as one of the go-to Ansan Korean restaurants — fits the bill perfectly. From the clean food to the friendly service, it left me satisfied and wanting to come back.
