Pohang Songdo restaurant for black sesame fried chicken: Plan A

In short

Plan A Restaurant is an ocean-view Western restaurant on the 4th floor of a building right in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang. On day two of a family trip with two kids, the writer ordered the 240g Plan A chop steak made without chili oil, beef tomato spaghetti, black sesame sauce fried chicken and a bowl of white rice, eating at a six-seat window terrace table facing the sea. With adjustable spice levels and generous portions, Plan A Restaurant is an easy choice for a family meal with children.

Plan A Restaurant: an ocean-view restaurant in Songdo, Pohang

Plan A Restaurant is an ocean-view Western restaurant on the 4th floor of a building right in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang. Today I'm sharing my review of this Songdo Beach ocean-view restaurant from last Monday's Pohang trip! If you're looking for a family-friendly place to eat with kids in Pohang, or an ocean-view pasta restaurant, this is one I'd recommend!

Songdo Beach, a place worth visiting in Pohang

Last Monday, morning broke on day two of our Pohang trip! Checkout at our hotel, Swiss Belhotel Pohang Jukdo, was at noon, so we had breakfast, relaxed in the room for a while, and then packed up and headed out. Originally I'd planned to have breakfast and then, with about 3 hours to spare, visit Jukdo Market since we hadn't made it there the day before... but the heat was already sizzling in the morning, so we skipped the market and rested a bit more before heading out to see the ocean instead! ☀️ (It was really hot that day. Even hotter than the day before, ugh.)

We checked out at noon and drove the 3 minutes to Songdo Beach in Pohang! 🚗💨 Songdo Beach has a different vibe from Yeongildae — Yeongildae is livelier, but I really love the calmer atmosphere of Songdo Beach.

The building and parking right in front of Songdo Beach

We'd eaten breakfast, but it was early, so by noon the kids were already fussing that they were hungry. We'd had dinner at Yeongildae the night before, so for lunch we decided on Western food at Songdo Beach, which the kids love! The place we chose was Plan A Restaurant, a Songdo, Pohang favorite! 🍝 They were so excited when I mentioned pasta, haha~

We arrived at Songdo Beach and, even though it was the day after the beach's official closing, it was really as hot as midsummer! With the heat, there weren't many people on the beach at noon. There was public parking right behind the restaurant, plus parking spots along the road by the beach, so we parked in an open spot and hurried inside out of the blazing sun.

Inside Plan A Restaurant and the ocean-view window terrace seats

You get to Plan A Restaurant by taking the elevator up to the 4th floor. When we walked in, all the tables were full, but a large six-seat window table happened to open up right then, so we grabbed it immediately!

Being right next to the terrace meant the ocean view was absolutely incredible~! 🥰 Feeling the cool AC while looking out at the Pohang sea spread out beyond the window felt totally healing! 💙

After 1pm it got a lot quieter~ If you come after the lunch peak, it seems like you could eat comfortably without a wait. Otherwise, I'd recommend booking ahead! (They said only 4 of the 10 daily slots are open for Naver reservations, in 30-minute increments^^)

Plan A Restaurant menu: what's the difference between Plan A and Plan B?

Plan A Restaurant is run by an owner-chef with 20 years of experience who's been at this same spot for over 10 years! 👨‍🍳👍

Tablet ordering screen at the table

Every table has a tablet, so ordering was really convenient. I was curious about the difference between Plan A and Plan B — it's whether the chop steak is stir-fried with sauce or with butter! You can also choose whether to add chili oil, so the spice level is adjustable, which was perfect for eating with the kids!

✨ What the family ordered at Plan A Restaurant ✨

  • 1. Plan A chop steak (240g) — chose no chili oil
  • 2. Beef tomato spaghetti 🍝
  • 3. Black sesame sauce fried chicken 🍗
  • 4. One bowl of white rice (instant rice)

The Plan A chop steak came with tender bite-sized pieces of meat, a fresh salad, and crispy fries! Both kids are fry lovers, so they raced to grab the fries first, but once I shared the meat too they ate really well! 😋 My picky second kid in particular won't eat meat if it's even a little tough, but she loved this and ate a ton~!

We added a bowl of white rice (₩2,000) and they ate that up well with the rice too~ Satisfied!

Beef tomato spaghetti at Plan A Restaurant

Generous portion, noodles cooked perfectly, and the sauce was so tasty!

For the beef tomato spaghetti, my second kid and I each took a small portion, and my first kid neatly polished off the rest! 🍝👧

The noodles were cooked just right and the sauce wasn't heavy at all, which was delicious and perfect for the kids' taste too.

Black sesame sauce fried chicken 🖤🍗

And the standout dish — black sesame sauce fried chicken! It comes coated in a nutty black sesame sauce, and since I already love the nuttiness of black sesame, it was really delicious~ I chose the black sesame sauce instead of the spicy pepper sauce so I could share it with the kids, but they said it looked interesting yet weren't willing to try it (there was already plenty to eat...) haha, so I ate it all myself~ I took the leftovers home, and even after it cooled down it was still really tasty! 😋👍

Notice for the Naver reservation review side-dish event

There's also an ongoing event where if you book through Naver reservations and leave a review after your visit, you get a free ₩10,000 side dish (spicy pepper sauce or black sesame sauce fried chicken, or 5 pieces of king prawn tempura). This time we ended up dropping by on impulse without a Naver reservation, but I'd recommend booking ahead through Naver^^

☕ Cafés and a walking route by Songdo Beach in Pohang

On the 2nd floor of the building where Plan A Restaurant is located, there's apparently a famous bingsu (shaved ice) café! We went in, but there were no seats on the ocean-view side, so we skipped it~ Right next door there was also a Caffebene and a Starbucks. After we finished our delicious meal at Plan A, we

Starbucks has a great view too! No window seats there either, as expected~

grabbed drinks from the Starbucks right next door and took a walk along Songdo Beach~ 🚶‍♀️🌊 It was really hot at midday, but the scenery of the blue sky meeting the sea was beautiful! The sand was so fine and soft too. With good weather, the waves were calm, and the kids got to dip their feet in the water — it was really lovely~ 💙☀️

Is Plan A Restaurant worth it with kids?

If you're planning a trip to Pohang, I'd recommend Plan A Restaurant, which combines great food with a great ocean view~ It has a refreshing view of Songdo Beach, the food is genuinely delicious, and the portions are generous, so I'd recommend it for a family meal, a couple's date, or a group gathering! It'd also be a great spot for an anniversary~

The kids said we should come back with dad next time, so we promised each other we'd definitely come back on a weekend when we're in Pohang again.^^
