Taegine Jogae Jeongol

There are days on the way home from work when you desperately crave a bowl of something piping hot. That day was exactly like that for me — I remembered Taegine Jogae Jeongol, a Geomdan spot I'd walked past many times before, and headed straight there without hesitation.

Why a hot-soup craving led to this Geomdan restaurant

With the weather turning cooler lately, hot soup started sounding really good. I wanted something spicy and packed with seafood if I was going to do it, so I headed to Taegine Jogae Jeongol Incheon Geomdan Ara Branch.

The location works well for anyone in the Geomdan New Town area wanting a low-effort dinner, and the vibe felt easygoing enough for a work dinner, a family meal, or a hangout with friends — a decent option for office workers searching for a restaurant near Ara Station too.

That said, there's a bit of a wait during evening hours. If there's a line outside, you can register on the tablet at the entrance counter, and you'll get a KakaoTalk message when your table is ready.
Where to park at Taegine Jogae Jeongol
Parking is available both in front of the store and in the basement lot, so even if you're driving there's not much hassle.
That said, seats fill up fast during the evening peak, so if you're getting here by public transit, walking from Exit 8 of Ara Station might actually be less stressful. It's only a 6-minute walk, so taking public transit isn't a big burden either.
6 minutes from Ara Station: what the restaurant looks like
Taegine Jogae Jeongol sits about a 6-minute walk from Exit 8 of Ara Station. The yellow-and-blue exterior stands out even from a distance, so finding it wasn't hard.
Stepping inside, the clam-shaped logo and floor-to-ceiling windows make the space feel bright and open.
The tables were spaced generously, so I could chat comfortably without worrying about the next table over. Everything felt tidy, and there seemed to be plenty of room for group dining too.
What comes with the 14,000-won soup-bossam set

That day we ordered the soup-bossam set (₩14,000), which comes with both bossam and a soup. You can pick clam soup, spicy seafood stew, or pollock stew for the soup — we went with the spicy seafood stew.
The bossam came out first, sliced thick but neat, and dipping it in ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) with cabbage made for a great protein boost. There was also pollock roe mixed into the sesame oil dipping sauce, which felt like a nice, unexpected touch.

It wasn't greasy at all, just clean and light — the kind of thing you keep reaching for.

Next came the spicy seafood stew, loaded with crab and clams, plus bean sprouts and tofu, which made it perfect for pouring over rice and mixing it all together.

The broth was way spicier than I expected — great news if you're someone who likes a properly fiery soup.
That clean, savory seafood flavor ran through the whole broth, so one bowl of the spicy seafood stew alone left me feeling completely full and satisfied.

They also had wasabi and Kikkoman soy sauce, and dipping the seafood in that made the umami flavor pop. One thing though — if you let it boil too long, the broth can get quite salty, so adjust the seasoning as you go. Rice and side dishes are all self-serve, and you can help yourself as much as you like.

A lot of people were mixing their barley rice with kimchi and sesame oil to make a kind of bibimbap (mixed rice). With unlimited refills on barley rice and side dishes at the self-serve corner, I ate really well.

When there's a wait outside, you can enter your phone number on the tablet at the counter just inside the entrance, and it'll send you real-time wait updates via KakaoTalk — so you can wander around nearby instead of standing outside.

Also, thanks to a Naver receipt review event, we got grilled shrimp for free — adding shrimp to the soup-bossam set made the whole meal feel even better value.
I love grilled shrimp anyway, and with fall shrimp season in full swing, getting it through the review event made it taste even better. Haha.

There's also ice cream at the self-serve corner, but it's only available until 9pm, so if you're visiting later in the evening, grab it quickly! Haha.
Also worth knowing ahead of time: there's a weekday break time from 3pm to 4pm, so keep that in mind to avoid a wasted trip.
Verdict: is the Geomdan seafood stew set worth it?

Going forward, whenever I'm craving hot soup and a solid bossam at the same time in Ara-dong, I think Taegine Jogae Jeongol will come to mind.

It would work just as well for an evening work dinner as for a casual lunch.

I like hunting down good restaurants around Geomdan, and this visit added one more to my list. I think this place will come to mind whenever I'm looking for a restaurant near Ara Station, so I'd love to come back and try other menu items next time.
