Riso gelato and a free taste-topping at Hi Gelato in Gangneung

Today I want to introduce a Gangneung dessert spot — Hi Gelato, which we stopped by on the last day of our trip ><

After we finished our trip, we stopped by Gangneung Central Market to buy some snacks, and there was a gelato shop nearby. We dropped in to grab something to eat in the car 🍦

We bought two large cups! There were so many different flavors to choose from,

My husband picked sundubu (soft tofu) gelato + milk chocolate chip, and I picked sundubu gelato + riso.

They also had menu items besides gelato!! It looked like some of the ingredients weren't even in the showcase, so I got curious haha. It's packed with tasty things, so I have a feeling this menu couldn't be bad either.

Here's what's really thoughtful — at the end, the staff member asks, "Is there a flavor you'd like to try?" So my husband picked 'Mango and Strawberry in Love,' and I picked 'Oops Matcha Cha.' (Cute flavor names, right? haha)

They add a little of these flavors on top of your gelato, and I thought it was such a nice touch 👍 There were so many flavors I wanted to try... I was personally curious about the peach oolong tea and the corn gelato, and being able to try one more flavor felt so great!

Don't you think they give a pretty generous scoop for the taste-topping? hahaha

Sundubu, riso, and milk chocolate chip flavor review

Sundubu gelato

Gangneung means sundubu (soft tofu) gelato, right? And it really was delicious. A flavor that can't go wrong, one that everyone would enjoy without exception! The tofu flavor comes through strongly, nutty and soft — really tasty.

Riso (my #1 pick!)

But personally, I liked the riso flavor even more! Back when I traveled to Italy, I got hooked on riso-flavored gelato and ate it almost every day. As I recall, 'riso' means rice. So it has a nutty flavor, and you can bite into little rice-grain-like bits in between, which gives it great texture. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who likes toasty, savory flavors. If you visit Hi Gelato, you have to try the riso flavor! Personally, I liked it even more than the sundubu gelato 🍚

Milk chocolate chip

The milk chocolate chip my husband picked was tasty too! Honestly, everything was just good... there wasn't a single flavor that missed haha.

Store atmosphere and seating

Since it's near the market, it's easy to pop in for a quick treat. The inside of the store is clean and comfortable, and the tables are set up nicely, so it's good for sitting down and eating there too!

It's also a great spot to rest for a bit after browsing the market, so it's perfect for a Gangneung dessert stop. The staff were kind too, so it was a pleasant visit :)

I go to Gangneung pretty often, but I had no idea a gelato shop like this existed! I'm planning to visit again, and next time I'll definitely try the corn flavor haha. If you're looking for a Gangneung dessert spot, I recommend Hi Gelato 🍦
