Ocean-view café in Gangneung for apogato and honey bread: Baegya
In short
Baegya Coffee is a four-story ocean-view bakery café right by Sacheonjin Beach in Gangneung. After a meal, the writer settled into a floor-to-ceiling window seat on the 3rd floor and enjoyed a corn cream shot latte, apogato (affogato), Sangha Farm ice cream, and honey bread together. With sea views and ample parking, it made for a great large-scale café to rest at during a Gangneung trip.

Isn't it just the best when you're traveling in Gangneung and can sit in a café with a coffee, watching the sea? Haha

After arriving in Gangneung and eating a good meal, we went looking for somewhere to relax and ended up at Baegya Coffee, a café near Sacheonjin Beach. It was great being close to the sea, but the scale was much bigger than we expected. The whole building is four stories, plus a rooftop, so there was plenty of room to spread out.

How are the floors laid out at Baegya Coffee?
The 1st floor is the bakery and ordering area — you order there and pick up and return your drinks and desserts.

The 2nd and 3rd floors are seating spaces where you can sit comfortably with your coffee, and the 4th floor is the rooftop. Each floor has a slightly different vibe, so it's fun picking whichever seat suits your mood :)

The Sacheonjin Beach ocean view from the 3rd-floor window seats
We wanted to properly enjoy the ocean view of Sacheonjin Beach that day, so we grabbed a seat on the 3rd floor! The moment we sat down, the first thing that caught our eye was the sea view through the floor-to-ceiling windows haha. The huge windows made the view feel wide open, and sitting there looking at the sea felt truly refreshing, without any stuffy feeling. In Gangneung, drinking coffee while looking at the sea really is what makes a trip feel like a trip, haha.

When we visited, there were a lot of people leisurely spending time looking at the sea, and just sitting there made me feel unexpectedly at ease. The weather was nice, so the blue sea and sky together made it even prettier.

The drinks and desserts we ordered after our meal
After looking around the café, we ordered a corn cream shot latte, apogato (affogato), Sangha Farm ice cream, and honey bread! We'd just eaten, so we actually meant to just have a simple drink, but once we saw the bakery and desserts, we couldn't just walk past, haha. After a short wait, the drinks came out and we brought them over!

Corn cream shot latte
First up, the corn cream shot latte! The distinctive nutty, sweet flavor of corn combined with soft cream made this a latte that was great to enjoy sweetly!

You could taste both the bitterness of the coffee and the nutty flavor of the corn together, and the combination worked better than I expected. If you usually like sweet lattes, I think you'd really enjoy this.

Apogato
And we also ordered apogato (affogato), which I love!

Rich espresso poured over soft ice cream let us enjoy sweet and bitter flavors together. As the ice cream slightly melted and mixed with the espresso, it was also nice to eat like a smooth, rich coffee dessert.

Sangha Farm ice cream, and the corn ice cream we'll try next time
The Sangha Farm ice cream also had a smooth milk flavor and was refreshing to eat. It's a menu item that ice cream lovers could enjoy without any guilt. Apparently Baegya Coffee also has a popular menu item called corn ice cream — soft-serve ice cream topped with corn powder and crunchy bits — so I definitely want to try that next time!

Honey bread
And the honey bread we ordered for dessert! Fluffy, soft bread with added sweetness paired really well with the coffee!

Even though we were already pretty full from our meal, sweet desserts just went right in anyway... haha. I guess it's true that there's a separate stomach for dessert, haha.
What about the space and parking?
Beyond the drinks and desserts, I also liked that the café space itself at Baegya Coffee was spacious and clean.

Since the space is divided across four different floors, it seems like you could find a seat relatively comfortably even when it's crowded. In particular, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to properly enjoy an ocean view, since there's a space like the 3rd floor with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the sea. Parking is also pretty spacious, so it would be an easy visit for anyone traveling around Gangneung by car, haha.
A travel course to pair with Sacheonjin Beach
Above all, the biggest advantage was being able to drink coffee while looking at the sea right near Sacheonjin Beach. Gangneung has so many pretty cafés, but when you want to really enjoy an ocean view while traveling, a Gangneung ocean-view café like this one is great.
We visited after eating and thoroughly enjoyed the coffee and desserts too — resting for a long while looking out at the sea through the floor-to-ceiling windows, we lost track of time, haha. If you're looking for a café near Sacheonjin Beach in Gangneung, I think it'd be great to add Baegya Coffee to your trip. You could go look at the sea at Sacheonjin Beach and then have a coffee at Baegya Coffee, or visit after a meal like we did and enjoy dessert too.

With its large scale, variety of drinks and baked goods, and the wide-open ocean view of Sacheonjin Beach, it was one of the more memorable cafés I visited during my Gangneung trip! If you're looking for a large café in Gangneung to relax at while looking at the sea, I'd recommend Baegya Coffee.
