Gangneung café for a toddler brunch of misugaru latte: Baegya Coffee

In short

Baegya Coffee is a large ocean-view bakery café spread over four floors on Haean-ro by Gyeongpodae Beach in Gangneung. Stopping in with a toddler for a late breakfast and a coffee break, we took a 3rd-floor window seat and ordered a 7-grain misugaru (roasted grain powder) latte, ruby plum ade, chestnut bread, basil sesame bread and crispy nurungji (scorched rice) bread. The indoor elevator and high chairs on every floor make Baegya Coffee easy with young kids, though the 4th-floor rooftop is outdoors and a no-kids zone.

While traveling in Gangneung, my husband and I went looking for a bakery café where we could get our kid a morning snack and grab a coffee ourselves — and we ended up spending a relaxing time at Baegya Coffee, an ocean-view café in Gangneung. Let me share a detailed review ✍️

Where is Baegya Coffee, and what about parking and hours?

Baegya Coffee is located at 607 Haean-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, and you can use the café's parking lot for free. It's open daily from 09:00 to 21:00.

There's parking right in front of the café, and also more parking up the hill next to it. If it's full, you can apparently use the public parking lot across the street too. Parking difficulty is low, even for beginner drivers.

Take a look at the coffee and drinks menu. You can choose your beans.

  • ✔️White beans: acidic
  • ✔️Night beans: nutty
  • If you don't specify, you'll get the nutty Night beans by default.

What's on each floor, from the 1st floor to the rooftop

Being a large café, Baegya Coffee is pretty sizeable. It spans 1st to 4th floors, and there's an indoor elevator, so it's convenient for elderly visitors or strollers. Note that the outdoor space is a no-kids zone for safety.

Let's start with the 1st floor. This is where the bakery items are and where you order drinks.

This is the 2nd floor. All the window seats have ocean views, and the wall side is set up in a staircase-like layout.

This is the 3rd floor. The sea view is definitely better here, and the chairs are more cushioned, making it feel a bit cozier. Each table also has plenty of space.

This is the 4th-floor rooftop. Since it's outdoors and a no-kids zone, I went up alone to take a quick look. The weather was a bit cloudy that day, but the wide-open ocean view was still refreshing.

There are high chairs on every floor, so it looked comfortable enough for families with young kids. After looking around the whole place, we settled into the 3rd floor and went to order bread and coffee.

At Baegya Coffee's 1st-floor bakery, all the bread is kept behind glass. This is the overall bakery display — I liked that it's kept behind glass, which helps keep things clean.

Our kid is a total bread lover, so she was busy picking out what she wanted to eat 🤭

There are also small-sized breads that are easy to enjoy without feeling too full.

They have quite a lot of juice options too.

What we ordered at Baegya Coffee

  • ☕️Drinks — 7-grain misugaru latte, ruby plum ade, iced Americano, iced café latte
  • 🥐Bread — crispy nurungji bread, chestnut bread, basil sesame bread

This is the bread our kid picked out herself.

Chestnut bread

We ordered this because our kid loves chestnuts, and it had more chestnut pieces than expected — she kept picking them out one by one. This is a style that older folks would like too.

Basil sesame bread

My husband picked this one out for me. I love basil, and with a subtle basil flavor plus the nuttiness of sesame added in, it was totally my taste — I want to eat it again.

Crispy nurungji bread

This has a crunchy texture kids would love, almost like eating a snack, with a nutty, sweet flavor.

How did the drinks taste?

We ordered quite a lot of drinks, so let me go through each one :)

7-grain misugaru latte

Since we were feeding our kid this as brunch, we ordered the misugaru (roasted grain powder) drink to fill her up along with the bread. It wasn't too sweet, so she finished a whole cup by herself. This would also be a good drink for elderly folks.

Ruby plum ade

My husband wanted something refreshing so we ordered this. It has a subtle plum flavor, and I'd recommend it if you're getting a drink here.

Iced Americano and iced café latte

The coffee had an inoffensive, crowd-pleasing bean flavor.

Is Baegya Coffee worth a stop with a toddler?

We wrapped up our Gangneung trip in a relaxed way, looking out at the sea. If you're looking for a large bakery café in Gangneung, consider Baegya Coffee :)

  • ✔️Being an ocean-view café, every seat looks out at the sea
