Garlic chipotle pasta at a Chuncheon tonkatsu spot: Jeongseong Katsu

This time I went back to Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch, the place I always think of whenever I crave tonkatsu~~ Even though it's a katsu specialty restaurant, they have such a variety of menu items, which made it a happy dilemma haha. Let's get right into it~

Where is Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch, and what does the entrance look like?

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is near an apartment complex in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon. The sign is written in big letters so it's easy to find~~ Let's go right in.

Inside Jeongseong Katsu: white-and-wood interior

Overall it's super clean and comfortable, and the staff were kind, so I could walk in feeling good. The white and wood tone interior was totally my style too haha. We visited on a Sunday evening! This was the spot we found to celebrate my birthday.. my dorm roommate was already a regular there, so we could visit trusting her recommendation lol.

The menu was super varied, and we ordered the mixed katsu set, cold soba + 4pc fillet katsu, and garlic chipotle pasta!!

First off, the water wasn't bottled water but a kind of tea. I'm not sure exactly what kind, but it was a tea anyone could drink without complaint, good good.

Jeongseong mixed katsu set: pork loin katsu to fried shrimp

The mixed katsu set!! Pretty substantial, right? The plating was pretty too~~ It had everything from pork loin katsu to fried shrimp, and it was all so delicious.. haha The breading was super crispy and the inside was tender on everything!! The salad's sauce suited my taste too so my hand kept reaching for it lol. If you're at Jeongseong Katsu wondering what to order, or want to try a bit of everything, I think ordering the mixed katsu set is exactly right~ Recommended bb

Cold soba with 4 pieces of fillet katsu, my favourite of the night

Both the katsu and the soba were really delicious. It's hard to look at that and think it wouldn't be tasty, right? This one is most my style.. bb Partly because it was already my favorite kind, but the fillet katsu was so soft and delicious, and refreshing myself with the soba between bites made me so happy. The best.. bb

The cold soba was more generous than I expected haha. When you're eating tonkatsu, having buckwheat soba on the side really does help keep you from getting tired of it 😋

It's good dipped in the sauce, and good dipped in wasabi too haha. The sauce had a classic taste, so I think it'll suit anyone's palate~

Garlic chipotle pasta: the surprise dish at Jeongseong Katsu

Lastly, the garlic chipotle pasta!! Since this isn't a pasta specialty restaurant, I didn't expect much from this dish. We only ordered it because eating just tonkatsu can get repetitive.. but it was unexpectedly really delicious!!

It's genuinely creamy and tasty.. bb My hand kept reaching for it ❤️ It really stretched, and it wasn't too rich either, which was great. On top of that they piled on garlic chips, so how could I not eat it.. This is another dish where after one bite, I already thought about ordering it again next time. Can't believe I'm only finding out about this dish now..ㅜㅜ

They also had a high chair and aprons haha. Good to know if you're bringing kids or wearing light-colored clothes~~

Verdict: worth sharing katsu, soba and pasta in a group

Overall, I used to think Jeongseong Katsu was a place that only served katsu, so I'd only ever tried the katsu, but this time I got to try everything from buckwheat soba to pasta and it was so great!! So delicious.. wow. I ate everything satisfied without a single letdown haha. Next time I visit I want to try the kimchi cheese nabe too (recommended by my classmate).

Especially if you're visiting with several people, I think it'd be great to order one katsu along with the buckwheat soba and pasta and share them all together~ If you're looking for a delicious katsu place in Chuncheon or a good date course restaurant with your partner, I recommend Jeongseong Katsu haha.
