Gwangju Sangmu Western restaurant: kung pao chicken pilaf, Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a European-style Western restaurant on Seogwangju-ro in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju. A married couple on a date ordered vongole (clam) pasta, kung pao chicken pilaf, sweet potato fries and a Sprite as separate dishes, and liked the kung pao chicken pilaf most for its whole chicken drumstick on top and its salty, savoury seasoning. With its own parking lot, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is an easy Sangmu Western restaurant to visit without worrying about parking.

I recently went back to a Western restaurant I love, Bueokgan, a pasta spot in Gwangju's Sangmu district! Bueokgan has pretty, tidy interiors and delicious Western food, and it's a place my husband and I go on dates all the time~~ This time too, I went on a day I was craving pasta! So let me introduce Bueokgan, a pasta restaurant in Sangmu, Gwangju~!

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch hours and parking

❣️Hours: Daily 11:00 - 22:00 / Break time 16:00 - 16:30 / Last order 21:00 ❣️Parking: use the restaurant's own lot

Entrance to Bueokgan Sangmu Branch's private parking lot

If you're looking for a Western restaurant in Sangmu with easy parking, I'd recommend this place! They have a private lot, so parking is really convenient~~ There's a lot next to the restaurant, but the sign is small, so keep an eye out as you come in! Follow the sign in and the lot appears a little further down! There's plenty of space, and every time I've gone I've found a spot easily~~

This is Bueokgan, a brunch restaurant in Sangmu! Doesn't the European-style interior make even the exterior gorgeous? haha It's a place I'd recommend for a Sangmu date spot!

This is the inside of the restaurant! I really love how clean yet pretty the interior is haha. The arched tables in particular are cute and distinctive! Great for a date, and also good for seating a group!!

What's on the Bueokgan menu, and what we ordered

This is the Bueokgan menu! The selection was really varied — salads, pasta, risotto, rice dishes, steak, pizza, side dishes, and more~ There are also set menus~! And above all, they had a huge range of drinks and alcohol! The wine selection in particular was really extensive~~ Highly recommend for wine lovers!! haha

We debated ordering a set menu but decided we just wanted one Sprite to drink, so we ordered everything separately! What we ordered was clam pasta, kongpao chicken pilaf, sweet potato fries, and Sprite! haha

I liked that the table was set with clean, pretty tableware~ haha

The first dish served, a plate of sweet potato fries

The first dish to arrive was the sweet potato fries! I don't remember ever having tried sweet potato fries before, so I was curious and ordered them haha. I also figured they'd make a good side~

Close-up of sweet potato fries shaped like regular french fries

The sweet potato fries looked exactly as I expected — just like the regular french fries we all know! Except it's sweet potato fried instead of regular potato~~ haha The outside was crispy and the inside was sweet and soft! They come with both honey and ketchup — dip in honey and the sweetness is maximized, dip in ketchup and you get that sweet-and-salty combo! Both were delicious in different ways, which I really liked~

After eating a few of the sweet potato fries, the clam pasta and kongpao chicken pilaf arrived!

First up, the clam pasta! I originally planned to order a cream pasta but suddenly craved an oil-based one and switched right before ordering~ I loved that the clams were piled all around the edge of the plate~

The noodles were soft, and there were plenty of clams and shrimp in it too, which was really satisfying! haha

Kung pao chicken pilaf with a whole drumstick on top

This is the kongpao chicken pilaf! My husband picked this one — he didn't think much of it when ordering, but once we actually got the dish we were both so, so happy with it! Isn't the visual of the pilaf with a whole chicken drumstick on top amazing? haha

The chicken was really tender! And the pilaf was seasoned nice and salty, which made it delicious~ Plus it had a nice chewy texture! haha
