Giheung shabu-shabu with baby chairs and dumplings: Deungchon

In short

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Giheung Station Branch is a shabu kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) restaurant on basement level 2 of ICT Valley Building B in Giheung-gu, Yongin. The spicy mushroom kalguksu for two costs 20,000 won, and this meal added extra beef and 4 king dumplings, eaten in order as shabu-shabu, kalguksu-dumpling soup, and fried rice, with one free dumpling per person, baby chairs, and a large parking lot. Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is an easy pick for a spicy shabu kalguksu meal with kids along.

Signature photo of spicy mushroom kalguksu at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Giheung Station Branch

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is one of the best-known shabu-shabu brands in Korea. I actually used to dislike minari (water dropwort), but when I went with coworkers and couldn't pick around it, I ended up forcing myself to eat it — and somehow got hooked haha (minari samgyeopsal is also my favorite now... 💚). They say as you get older you start eating things you used to avoid... I guess that means I've matured and stopped being a picky eater? ^^ This is my review from a spicy mushroom kalguksu run loaded with minari at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu, a well-known shabu-shabu spot in Giheung.

Just looking at that photo of the minari is already making my mouth water.

Inside Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu: seating, baby chairs, and kiosk ordering

The inside of Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Giheung Station Branch is clean, with several tables for 4–6, so it seems fine for family visits or a work dinner. The other side was full of customers so I only got shots of the entrance area.

Store kiosk and handheld fan placed on the table

You order through a kiosk and pay on your way out. If you write a receipt review you can get a free drink, and adding their KakaoTalk channel gets you a discount coupon :) And a nice thoughtful touch — a handheld fan on every table. The restaurant itself wasn't hot, but since you're cooking food at the table, they seem to have prepared one for each seat just in case.

Baby chair set up on top of a regular chair

If you need a baby chair, just ask and staff will bring one out and set it up. They said it's more stable if you set it on top of the regular chair, and it worked out well since my kid's feet reached the chair comfortably.

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu menu and the egg roe (algon) option

The spicy mushroom kalguksu is ₩20,000 for two and includes vegetables, kalguksu noodles, dumplings, and fried rice. Extra beef is 190g for ₩10,000, and king dumplings are ₩5,000.

Menu board for the spicy mushroom kalguksu set for two

When it comes to Deungchon, spicy is really the way to go. Has anyone tried the clear mushroom kalguksu? I'm curious, but a familiar taste is scary, so I always end up ordering spicy ㅠㅠ haha. The Giheung Station branch unusually also has an algon (pollack roe) add-on option, so if you like altang (spicy pollack roe stew), it might be worth adding. (Algon add-on +₩10,000)

A beautifully set-up shabu kalguksu spread!

Minari piled high on top of the pot

A minari bomb.. it feels hearty just to look at. They really pile the minari on generously.

Free dumpling served as a standard side

I've eaten at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu many times, but I've never seen a branch that gives you free dumplings before.. at the Giheung Station branch, one dumpling per person comes included as standard?! That's probably why so many people from Giheung-gu Office come here for kalguksu 😆

4 king dumplings for 5,000 won

4 separately ordered king dumplings

There's a dumpling fanatic in my household so we ordered king dumplings separately too haha. These are big and packed full of filling, so it seems like a good idea to order one each, especially for families with kids!

How to eat the spicy mushroom kalguksu in order

Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu is even better if you enjoy it in courses, in order!

Round one: beef shabu-shabu in the spicy mushroom broth

Beef being added into the boiling broth for shabu-shabu

First, once the broth is bubbling, add the beef and cook it shabu-shabu style along with the minari and mushrooms. The beef cooks fast, so add just a little at a time as you eat!

Minari and beef dipped into sauce

Dip the spicy-broth-soaked minari and beef into the sauce provided on every table — it eats clean without feeling greasy. The minari aroma really comes through, which makes it even better!

Round two: kalguksu noodles and dumpling soup

Add the dumplings and kalguksu noodles and it turns into spicy kalguksu-dumpling soup.

Geotjeori kimchi side dish served with the kalguksu

Kimchi is a must with kalguksu! The fresh geotjeori (unfermented kimchi) side dish paired so well that I ended up asking for a refill :)

Round three: the fried rice finish

Fried rice being cooked after removing some broth
They set aside the remaining broth separately.

No Deungchon meal is complete without the fried rice.. honestly, there are times I want to go to Deungchon just for this fried rice ㅠ haha. Every grain of rice is well seasoned and so savory ㅠㅠㅠ. It's the unforgettable Deungchon signature dish once you try it.. though I have had one branch where it was disappointingly bland before. The Giheung Station branch fries it up really well 💛

Fried rice dipped into the spicy broth

Dipping the fried rice into the broth every so often is also a treat. It's delicious plain, but soaking it in the spicy broth gives it a totally different feel. The fluffy rice turns moist and you get the broth flavor mixed in too!

Free yogurt for dessert at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu

Dessert yogurt drinks prepared by the entrance

There's a basket full of yogurt drinks by the entrance. On your way out after finishing your meal, they hand you one to take haha. A spicy meal followed by a sip of something sweet — a nice way to cleanse the palate :)

Parking and the CGV cinema on the same floor

Inside the ICT Valley basement parking lot
Spacious and comfortable parking area

Parking matters a lot for new drivers. Even on a weekend lunch rush, it was next-level.. spacious and comfortable ✨ New drivers.. head to the Giheung Station branch of Deungchon..!!

Walkway to the CGV on the same floor
Entrance passage to CGV on basement level 2

And there's a CGV movie theater right on the way to Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu. It's in the same building, same floor, so it seems great for a meal before or after a movie.

Is Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu in Giheung worth a visit with kids?

Shabu-shabu, kalguksu-dumpling soup, and fried rice, all enjoyable like a course for ₩30,000 for two at Deungchon Shabu Kalguksu Giheung Station Branch. What set it apart from other branches was that dumplings come included as standard — and definitely save room for the fried rice.. haha. They really fry it up deliciously here 👍 If you're looking for good shabu-shabu near Giheung Station, I'd recommend this place!
