What bread Hongyun Bakery in Susong-dong, Gunsan bakes
At Hongyun Bakery you'll find bread made fresh in-store using rice, Korean wheat, barley, and mixed grains. To pick your bread, just grab a tray and tongs from the center of the store.
Made with rice, Korean wheat, barley, and mixed grains, every single loaf looked delicious.

Hongyun Bakery is the shop of a certified master baker in Gunsan. There was so much I wanted to try, it was hard to choose.

There are vegan breads, barley bread, ciabatta, and other health-conscious options, plus cream-stuffed choux buns and root vegetable breads. Everything at Hongyun Bakery is naturally fermented, apparently.

There's cube pastry you peel off sheet by sheet, and mocha buns that pair perfectly with coffee.

This was the corner that kept me standing in one spot the longest. Condensed milk baguette or pollack roe baguette — that is the question!

You know you have to eat vegetable bread when you come to Gunsan, right? Every famous Gunsan bakery has it! If you're visiting, I recommend picking one up too.

I also spotted dinosaur egg bread, famous in Gwangju, along with sandwiches and sweet dessert roll cakes — quite the variety.

The cake corner: where to find kirsch cake in Gunsan
This was the cake corner I was genuinely happy to find. I'd been looking for kirsch cake in Gunsan, and here it was at Hongyun Bakery! Birthday candles are sold here too, so if you're coming for a birthday cake, you can grab those together.

Taking Hongyun Bakery bread to a campsite picnic
With my bag of bread from Hongyun Bakery in hand, I headed to a campsite. Looking out at a great view, I tasted the dinosaur egg bread, pizza bread, korokke, vegetable bread, and condensed milk baguette one by one.
La la la~ A bread bag carefully and thoughtfully filled. Where should I take this?

I brought the bread to a campsite! Taking in a great view, let's taste everything one by one~
I once traveled all the way to Gwangju just to try dinosaur egg bread, so being able to get it in Gunsan too, without going far, was such a nice surprise.
My picks from the savory side. The pizza bread tasted exactly like the pizza bread from my neighborhood bakery when I was a kid — so nostalgic. The korokke was crispy outside and moist inside too, which I loved.

How the vegetable bread and condensed milk baguette tasted
Finally, the two I really want to recommend — Hongyun Bakery's vegetable bread and condensed milk baguette! Having eaten at every bakery in Gunsan, I personally think this vegetable bread is the best in the city. The vegetables inside were crisp and the filling was generous, and the condensed milk baguette was pure nutty softness — with plenty of cream inside, it was absolutely delicious.
If you're wondering which Gunsan bakery to visit, I recommend Hongyun Bakery. After trying it myself, the vegetable bread and condensed milk baguette stood out the most — the vegetable bread had a satisfying, crisp filling, and the condensed milk baguette had soft bread with plenty of cream. If you're planning a bakery tour during your trip to Gunsan, stop by Hongyun Bakery, where you can also catch the flour rice bread pilgrimage event!
