Hongyun Bakery is a neighborhood bakery at 40 Chukdongan-gil in Susong-dong, Gunsan. There's no dedicated parking lot, so it's easiest to park at the nearby public parking lot.

I've had good bread here before, so I finally went back to Hongyun Bakery 💖 Every time I pass through this alley in Susong-dong I think about stopping by, and I finally did after a long while 😜 There's no lot of its own, so park at the public lot 🚘

Inside Hongyun Bakery: what breads are on the shelves?

The inside of Hongyun Bakery was clean, and since I went on a weekday there was still plenty of bread left. Every loaf was wrapped in plastic, which made it easy to pick and easy to carry home.

Time for the real bread shopping to begin 🥺 The interior was clean, and being a weekday meant there was still a lot left over, which felt reassuring 💗

What I liked was that all the bread was neatly wrapped in plastic 😉 A lot of the loaves used Korean wheat, or healthy ingredients like rye, whole wheat, mixed grains, and red yeast rice 💗 There were also lots of savory meal breads, which looked great as a meal substitute 🙆🏻‍♀️

Rice cream cheese bread, egg tarts, cube pastries, sweet potato cream cheese bread, blueberry cream cheese bread — so many things looked amazing that I really struggled with what to choose 🤣 If there were room in my freezer at home, I'd want to sweep up one of every kind ❗️

Walking past the mocha buns, that nostalgic mocha smell wafted out and made me hesitate over whether to buy one 🥺 There were also croissants, which I love, and they looked super flaky — but since I was sharing with family, I went with things everyone would enjoy 💘

Even the basics — soboro bread, chapssaltteok red bean bread, barley bread, ciabatta — had me deliberating hard ✨ With how expensive bread prices have gotten these days, Hongyun Bakery's prices felt generous for the size of the loaves, so it felt like good value for money ☺️

Hongyun Bakery's refrigerated case had sandwiches and burgers, which looked great to grab as a full meal. Next time I'll buy one and try it as breakfast 💖

I browsed everything, from the reasonably priced garlic bread and cheese bread to the dinner rolls, and picked out the ones that looked most delicious 😇

The cheese bread is mild but you can taste the savory flavor of cheese lingering gently, the kind of thing that keeps your hand reaching for more 💖 Especially good with milk — you could finish a whole bag without noticing. The portion is generous for the price, so watch out or you'll keep eating until you're full 🥺

The sweet potato cream cheese bread is sweet on the outside, and inside there's more sweet potato paste-like cream than you'd expect — anyone who loves root vegetables will love this without question 😉 It's not too sweet either, so even older family members liked it ❤️

The chapssaltteok red bean bread, true to its name, has rice cake and red bean inside — the rice cake makes it chewy and springy, and the sweet red bean paste is the real hook here ⭐️ It's even better warmed up briefly in the microwave 💗
