Gunsan bakery pizza bread and old-style burger to go: Hongyun Bakery

I went to Hongyun Bakery, a bakery locals in Gunsan actually recommend! Hongyun Bakery makes its bread with rice flour, Korean wheat, and glutinous barley, so you get to eat healthier bread haha~

The store is so clean~ As soon as you walk in, the whole place smells of fresh bread! It made me want to try all the different breads right away~

You just pick up a tray and tongs to grab your bread! This is Hongyun Bakery, the local Gunsan favorite that was also featured on tvN's Handsome Guys.

What kinds of bread do they have?

The bread is neatly arranged, so it's nice to look at and easy to pick from! There's pizza bread, which I love, plus cheese bread, financiers, mammoth bread, basil bread, and more — so many kinds!

There's rice castella and rice cream cheese bread that kids will love, ham and cheese croissants and condensed milk baguettes that MZ-generation folks will like, and chestnut pies and brown rice manju that older folks will enjoy — there's plenty for every age group~~

The bread sits inside a clean sliding glass case, so it's hygienic too~!

Cakes and roll cakes

The cakes are packed with fruit and the prices are so reasonable~ They're seriously in that old-fashioned, homey cake style! There are also roll cakes good for gifting, and macarons too!

Meal-replacement breads and drinks

The fridge case has sandwiches, burgers, and salad bread — good as a meal replacement — plus sweet treats like Basque cheesecake, egg tarts, and choco pies! There's also milk, juice, and yogurt kids will love, and sodas too~

They also have tofu crackers and garlic bread. Hongyun Bakery, the local Gunsan favorite, is run by a master baker (제과제빵명인), so it's won quite a lot of awards too!! It's a bakery you can trust.

They also sell cute little items. Rice flour (가루쌀) is a newly developed rice variety made specifically for flour, and Hongyun Bakery's breads use no imported wheat — they're made with rice flour, Korean wheat, and glutinous barley!

Kakao Pay, Onnuri gift certificates, and Gunsan Love gift certificates are all accepted. Hongyun Bakery, a local Gunsan favorite, also sells coffee and drinks, which seem great to pair with the bread~ I can see bread waiting to be picked up here!

There were so many kinds I wanted to try everything! But I held back and picked out just enough🤗 They're running the rice-flour bakery pilgrimage event, so if you spend over ₩20,000 you get a random keyring pack! We got a keyring too, and the owner had the sense to give us a pink one since we have a daughter👍🏻 Pink happens to be my daughter's favorite color~ she loved it so much!! We clipped it onto her kindergarten bag as a keyring! What a chance — you get to eat healthy bread AND get a cute keyring‼️ There are lots of bakery pilgrimage events going on, so give it a try!

We packed everything up and headed home~

They say rice flour has higher viscosity than wheat flour, so it's chewier, and since it has no gluten, it's easier to digest. The 2026 rice-flour bakery pilgrimage runs together with 300 rice-flour bakeries nationwide and includes a stamp event too, so go ahead and apply!

Tasting the pizza bread, salt bread, chocolate financier, and old-style burger

I picked pizza bread, salt bread, glutinous rice donut, chocolate financier, and a burger~

The burger is seriously old-school~ It's packed with lettuce, and I microwaved it for 30 seconds and shared it half-and-half with my husband — I wanted more! It's so good~

The pizza bread has a big chunk of sausage inside, and as a pizza-bread killer, I finished a whole one by myself~ The salt bread is soft with a crispy outside! The glutinous rice donut is chewy~ I gave it to the kids as a snack and they loved it! Can you see how big the chocolate financier is and how packed it is with chocolate chips?! The chocolate flavor is rich~ truly soft with amazing depth of flavor!! Next time I'll have to go buy the condensed milk baguette and the ham and cheese croissant!
