When I arrived, the restaurant was way bigger and more spacious than I expected.
Especially the parking lot — it's huge, so there's no need to worry about finding a spot, which was great.
Weekend lunch: how busy is it, and how does the kiosk ordering work?
I visited Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch around 1:30pm on a weekend, and there were already quite a lot of customers. Especially families! Walking in, I could tell this must be a famous lunch spot near Pyeongdong Station.
You order from the kiosk at your table once you're seated. They run on a "one menu item per person" principle, so keep that in mind!
They have all kinds of donkatsu, noodles, rice dishes, and sides. I struggled to choose because I wanted to try everything 🥹
There were explanation-type notices posted at every table too.
What can you take from the self-bar?
The self-bar at Jinsim King Donkatsu Pyeongdong Branch has lettuce and ssamjang (dipping sauce), udon broth, and cream soup. Tableware is also self-serve from the same station.
I wondered why there was lettuce and ssamjang here — turns out it's for wrapping your donkatsu! I only figured this out later, which was such a shame since I love donkatsu wraps...
Next to it there's also udon broth? — and it's honestly so tasty. Perfect for whetting your appetite.
And soup — I love donkatsu restaurants that serve soup, it's my favorite thing about Western-style donkatsu places. Plus it's self-serve, so you can pour as much as you want.
Okay, once you've hit the self-bar, sit down, grab your tableware, and get ready to eat. From the self-bar to the tableware, I kept noticing how spotless the whole place is!

Sweet potato cheese donkatsu: how does the cheese taste?
Wherever I go, I tend to order sweet potato cheese donkatsu, which is exactly why I can never give up Western-style donkatsu.

Can you feel all that cheese?
The cheese pours out like a waterfall — ah, it's so good. How could you not order the sweet potato cheese donkatsu.
And I'm totally team sauce-on-top haha. This sauce doesn't splatter around or anything, it was just a perfectly delicious Western-style sauce.
Fish cutlet with jjolmyeon: crisp fish and chewy noodles
When this fish cutlet arrived, I was totally shocked by its overwhelming size.
Seriously, it's as big as my body.
Inside that flower-shaped batter is moist fish meat, topped with a generous amount of tartar sauce — so good!
And the jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles)! Jjolmyeon pairs so well with donkatsu... and the portion wasn't a small side-dish amount at all, it was a full serving, which surprised me.
How big are the portions?
Can you tell how large the bowls and portions are? Two of us went and it was hard to finish everything. It was that much food, but don't feel bad about leaving leftovers.
They even have a self-packing station haha. Little touches like this are really what I appreciate.
