Haneul City Chinese restaurant with table kiosk ordering: Bongga

Today I'm sharing a spot near Unseo Station, a well-known restaurant in Yeongjong, Incheon's Haneul-dosi area — Bongga Gyodong Banjeom (본가교동반점), after trying their Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap!

Where is Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, and when is it open?

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a Chinese restaurant located at 50-8 Hwarangmok-ro, 1st floor, Yeongjong-gu, Incheon. Hours are Mon-Thu 11:00-19:00, Fri and Sun 11:00-15:00, and it's closed on Saturdays.

I was craving Chinese food in Yeongjong and went looking, which led me to Bongga Gyodong Banjeom! I found it while searching for somewhere to eat around Haneul-dosi, and since it's known for its jjamppong, I ordered jjajangmyeon and tangsuyuk alongside it to try everything properly haha.

It's an easy spot to find if you're around Haneul-dosi, and it's also a solid pick when you're looking for jjamppong or Chinese food near Unseo Station. Just plug in the address and you won't have trouble finding it — the restaurant is on the ground floor, so the sign is visible right as you walk by!

For those driving, there's parking right in front of the restaurant, which made it convenient to come with a car. A lot of getting around in Yeongjong is by car, so having parking right out front made it an easy place to stop by for a meal.

The exterior was clean and the sign stood out enough that I found it quickly even on my first visit. Having parking space right in front made it easy to park and walk straight in!

Inside Bongga Gyodong Banjeom: seating and the table kiosk

Walking into Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, there was plenty of seating. There were tables for four as well as larger tables for bigger groups, so it works whether you're eating solo or coming with family or friends.

Overall the atmosphere was good for focusing on the meal, and each table had a kiosk for ordering, which made it easy to browse the menu at your own pace. Side dishes and utensils are at a self-serve bar, so you just grab whatever you need while eating!

The menu had a range of jjamppong dishes from jjajangmyeon to Gyodong jjamppong and Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap, plus sides like tangsuyuk and fried dumplings. Since the restaurant's very name is Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, the signature dish is naturally Gyodong jjamppong, but if you want something a bit different, the Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap caught my eye too~

That day we ordered mini tangsuyuk, jjajangmyeon, and Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap. There were just two of us, but once the dishes started arriving one by one, the table filled up fast haha. That's the fun of Chinese restaurants — ordering a bunch of dishes and sharing them together!

Mini tangsuyuk: the right size for two

We started with the mini tangsuyuk! The mini size was good for pairing with the main dishes, and the batter came out fried crisp, so the first bite had great texture. Dipping it into the tangsuyuk sauce, I thought — yeah, this dish is essential at any Chinese restaurant haha.

Since we also ordered jjajangmyeon and jjamppong-bap, the mini tangsuyuk portion was just right. Picking up a piece here and there between bites of other food, I kept reaching for it~

Next up, jjajangmyeon! It came with a generous amount of black bean sauce on top of the noodles, plus a fried egg. Having that fried egg on top made it look even more appetizing haha.

I mixed the noodles and sauce together evenly, and the sauce coated the noodles really well. Jjajangmyeon really is best mixed and eaten hot right when it arrives!

Breaking the egg yolk a little and mixing it in with the jjajangmyeon added a nutty richness that made it even tastier. If you like jjajangmyeon, this is a solid, reliable version~

What does Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap taste like?

And the dish I was most curious about that day — Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap! As the name suggests, it's jjamppong-bap made with Chodang-style soft tofu. Unlike a regular jjamppong-bap, the soft tofu made it fun to scoop up along with the broth.

The jjamppong broth had a good kick of spice, and the soft tofu paired well with both the broth and the rice. Scooping up the other ingredients mixed into the broth spoonful by spoonful, it turned out pretty filling haha.

At first I ate the tofu and broth separately, then later started scooping up the rice with it too. Spicy jjamppong broth, soft tofu, and rice together made for a satisfying one-bowl meal~

How the three dishes worked together, plus the yogurt at the door

Eating the three dishes together made for a great combo. Sweet and savory bites of jjajangmyeon, a piece of tangsuyuk here and there, then the spicy broth of the Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap in between — none of the flavors overlapped, so I kept eating without getting tired of it haha.

And right as we finished up and were about to leave, they handed us each a yogurt! Getting a yogurt to drink at the end of a Chinese meal made the whole thing feel like a clean, tidy finish haha. After all that spicy jjamppong, ending with a sweet yogurt turned out to pair surprisingly well~

What to order at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom if you visit as a pair

If you're looking for a Chinese restaurant in Yeongjong, this is a solid pick among the well-known spots in Haneul-dosi, and it's also good to keep in mind near Unseo Station whenever you're craving jjamppong or jjamppong-bap!

Especially if jjajangmyeon alone feels like it's not enough and you also want tangsuyuk, adding the mini tangsuyuk is a good move. It's also a nice combo when two people want to share a few different dishes haha.

That day I had a full meal of jjajangmyeon, Chodang sundubu jjamppong-bap, and tangsuyuk, and walked out happy with a yogurt in hand to finish!
