Chinese restaurant near Incheon Airport: solo dinner at Bongga Gyodong

In short

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a jjamppong-focused Chinese restaurant tucked inside the Unseo Station café street in Yeongjong, Incheon, a short ride from Incheon Airport. On the evening before a flight, a solo diner ordered the Gangneung Chodang sundubu (soft tofu) jjamppong with rice for 12,000 won and the mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for 13,000 won, alternating between the spicy broth and the thin, aged-batter pork. No trip to Gangneung needed — Bongga Gyodong Banjeom makes a satisfying last meal near Unseo Station.

I had a solo meal at Bongga Gyodong Banjeom, a well-known spot near Unseo Station, with Gangneung Chodang sundubu jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup with soft tofu) rice and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork).

Before flying out of Incheon Airport, I wanted one last warm, spicy Korean-style meal. Looking up restaurants near my accommodation by Unseo Station, I found a Chinese restaurant serving Gangneung Chodang sundubu jjamppong, and I practically ran over there like a hornet chasing something sweet — and had a delicious solo meal.

My appetite has been on fire lately — I can basically eat two servings by myself now, which is great for keeping up my energy and immunity. Tasting the Gangneung Chodang jjamppong sundubu again made me think, this is exactly why I love domestic travel — and it made me want to actually visit Gangneung before the year ends. That was my experience at Bongga Gyodong Jjamppong near Unseo Station.

I'm honestly picky about tangsuyuk, but this one won me over — the flour batter was thin and crispy, the meat was thick, and the sauce wasn't too sweet, just savory enough. Totally satisfied!

I got off work early and arrived before the usual dinner rush, but the dining hall already had quite a few customers! As expected of a well-known spot near Unseo Station, local residents seemed to be gathering for dinner too :)

Gyodong jjamppong, meat jjamppong, sundubu jjamppong. True to its name — Gyodong Banjeom — this place really nails jjamppong. The jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) is good too, but you have to try the jjamppong broth!

Side dishes and any tools you need are self-serve from the bar. If I hadn't been eating alone, one sip of that spicy, rich jjamppong broth and I would've ordered drinks right away with a friend haha

You don't need to travel all the way to Gangneung, far from Incheon, to enjoy this — Bongga Gyodong Banjeom's chodang sundubu jjamppong brings together soft, silky sundubu (uncurdled tofu) and the spicy heat of Gyodong jjamppong. If you're someone who usually prefers jjamppong over jjajang, I think you'll agree this is a legit find near Unseo Station in Yeongjong haha. Clearing out my system at a proper sundubu jjamppong spot right before my flight made me so happy~

There's plenty of meat and hearty seafood — real squid, not the giant processed kind — plus wok-charred vegetables piled generously on top, adding both savory depth and spicy kick.

This is the must-try move at a Yeongjong tangsuyuk spot. Because the batter is aged, the frying coat stays thin and crispy while the meat inside is thick and satisfying. It pairs perfectly with the tangy sauce — one spoonful of the spicy jjamppong broth, then one bite of sweet tangsuyuk, and it's the perfect balance haha.

If the sweet sauce gets a little much, dip it in soy sauce mixed with chili powder for a spicier bite — really good too~
