In short

Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a jjamppong-focused Chinese restaurant near Unseo Station in Yeongjong, Incheon. Two of us shared sundubu jjamppong (spicy soft-tofu noodle soup) and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) ordered from a table tablet, and Bongga Gyodong Banjeom also has a self-serve side bar, a table for dining with a baby and an in-store restroom, so it works for solo diners and families alike. First off, the location near Unseo Station made it easy to find. A lot of places around Unseo Station have similar menus, but on days when I'm craving a hot, spicy broth, Chinese food especially hits the spot. So this time I went with Gyodong Jjamppong.

How the sundubu jjamppong tasted

I ordered sundubu jjamppong (soft-tofu spicy noodle soup) and mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), and we shared both — the combo was really good.

I tried the sundubu jjamppong first. True to its name, there's soft tofu in the jjamppong broth, giving it a different feel from regular jjamppong. The spicy, hot broth with the soft tofu made the heat feel a bit gentler, and the broth and tofu went really well together.

The tofu was especially soft, so scooping it up with the broth gave a nice texture and a hearty feeling. The broth itself wasn't bland at all — it had real kick, so it would go great with rice too. I kept going back for more broth and ended up eating quite a lot haha.

If you've never had sundubu jjamppong before, it might feel a bit different from regular jjamppong, but I actually liked having the tofu in there. You get both the spiciness of the broth and the softness of the tofu at once, so it's not just intense — it's the kind of flavor that keeps you eating.

Mini tangsuyuk: just right for two to share

The mini tangsuyuk I ordered alongside it was satisfying too. Regular tangsuyuk portions can feel like too much to pair with another dish, but the mini size was perfect alongside the jjamppong. If two people visit and each order a sundubu jjamppong while sharing a mini tangsuyuk as a side, that felt like the perfect combination.

The tangsuyuk came out nice and crispy, and it paired well with the spicy broth. Take a sip of jjamppong broth, eat a piece of tangsuyuk, then back to the broth — I kept doing that haha. Eating the spicy dish alongside the crispy tangsuyuk felt like each one filled in what the other was missing.

Crispy fried mini tangsuyuk

Since sundubu jjamppong is mostly a broth-focused dish, ordering tangsuyuk alongside it made the table feel much fuller. I'd probably order this same combo again next time.

For anyone looking for somewhere to eat near Unseo Station, I'd recommend giving this jjamppong spot a try. It should especially suit people who love spicy broth or Chinese food. It works fine for a quick solo meal, and it's also good for a group who wants to add tangsuyuk or other dishes to share.

Personally, I think it'd be even more satisfying to visit on a day when you're craving spicy broth like lately. With the tofu in it, the broth feels hearty and filling, and it's a good pick when you want something a bit different from the usual menu.

I also liked that there's a mini tangsuyuk option. Sometimes you want to order tangsuyuk at a Chinese restaurant but hesitate because of the portion size — the mini version lets you order it worry-free, like a side dish. I'd especially recommend it to anyone like me who wants both jjamppong and tangsuyuk.

Overall, the food came out hot and ready to eat right away, and the tofu blended smoothly into the broth for a delicious meal. The broth was spicy enough that one spoonful naturally led to the next. Without ordering a bunch of complicated dishes — just sundubu jjamppong and mini tangsuyuk — it was still a plenty filling meal.

Yakult given as a dessert treat
