Unseo Station jjambbong restaurant with soft tofu: Bongga Gyodong
In short
Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is a Chinese restaurant on Hwarangmok-ro in Yeongjong, Incheon, near Unseo Station, where the noodles are made in-house. For dinner we shared one gyodong jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) and one jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), then added a Gangneung Chodang sundubu (soft tofu) side of noodles-style topping and half a bowl of rice. The mild sundubu went surprisingly well with the fiery gyodong jjambbong broth, so Bongga Gyodong Banjeom stays on the list whenever a jjambbong craving hits near Unseo Station.

Craving jjambbong near Unseo Station one evening

I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner near Unseo Station when a craving for spicy jjambbong hit, so I headed to Bongga Gyodong Banjeom. There are actually quite a few good restaurants popping up near Unseo Station these days, so I was scrolling around trying to decide, but since I specifically wanted jjambbong that day, I settled on Chinese food! I'd found this place while searching for jjambbong near Unseo Station, and once I actually tried it, it was better than I expected — I left really satisfied.

Since the noodles are made in-house, they were definitely chewy and didn't go soft the whole time I was eating — I really liked that!

Our order: gyodong jjambbong, jjajangmyeon and a soft tofu topping
We ordered gyodong jjambbong and jjajangmyeon. When there are two of us, we like ordering one jjambbong and one jjajangmyeon to share — sometimes just jjambbong feels like it's missing something, and sometimes you want jjajangmyeon too, so ordering this way lets us enjoy both flavors. This time we also wanted to try something a bit different, so we added a Gangneung Chodang sundubu topping and half a bowl of rice.

How spicy is the gyodong jjambbong broth?
We started with the main order, the gyodong jjambbong. With jjambbong you naturally taste the broth first as soon as it arrives, and this one had a spicy, rich flavor I really liked. It had a good kick of heat while still being deep and full-bodied, which paired well with the noodles. I personally pay a lot of attention to the broth when eating jjambbong — the noodles matter, but the broth matters more to me — and since it was so good, I kept taking spoonful after spoonful.

Does a Gangneung Chodang soft tofu topping work in jjambbong?
What was personally the most fun part of this visit was adding the Gangneung Chodang sundubu topping. Putting soft tofu into jjambbong felt a little unfamiliar at first, but once I actually tried it together, it worked surprisingly well! The soft sundubu mixed into the spicy jjambbong broth added a nice tender texture, and eating it together with the broth made for an interesting combination. Gyodong jjambbong on its own is already delicious, but if you're someone who likes sundubu, I'd definitely recommend adding this topping too.

Of everything I ate that day, the combination of gyodong jjambbong + Gangneung Chodang sundubu topping + half a bowl of rice was the one that stuck with me the most.

The jjajangmyeon we shared alongside
Next up was the jjajangmyeon we ordered together. If jjambbong is spicy and rich, jjajangmyeon is sweet and nutty, so switching back and forth between the two worked really well. Take a bite of jjambbong, then a bite of jjajangmyeon, and the contrasting flavors keep things from feeling repetitive! If you're like me and have trouble choosing between jjambbong and jjajangmyeon at a Chinese restaurant, I'd recommend ordering both to share.

Is Bongga Gyodong Banjeom worth a return trip?
After visiting and eating in person, I get why people looking for jjambbong near Unseo Station mention Bongga Gyodong Banjeom. Most of all, I got to enjoy the spicy jjambbong I was craving, and adding the sundubu topping and rice made the whole meal even more filling.

If you're deciding on lunch or dinner near Unseo Station, or searching for jjambbong near Unseo Station, Bongga Gyodong Banjeom is worth a visit. Especially if you like spicy jjambbong like gyodong jjambbong, I'd recommend ordering it and adding the Gangneung Chodang sundubu topping like we did!

I enjoyed my meal so much that I think I'll come back the next time I'm craving jjambbong near Unseo Station :) This is my honest review after visiting and eating there in person.
